Yes. One of the baffle plates inside it may have come loose. If it is not too much trouble take it off and shake it. Or try holding the box with gloves when reproducing the sound.

Get about a metre of garden hose, put one end to your ear and go around the car like a doctor with a stethoscope. This will at least track down the general area for the noise.

Hi Moises,

Thanks for the video. It's such a high-pitched noise, that it doesn't sound like it is occuring once each time the engine rptates? It almost sounds like it is coming from the links on the timing chain, chattering against something. You could try unscewing the cap from the ol filler tube and seeing if the noise is louder?

Have you adjusted the camshaft peg correctly? This MUST be done when the engine is stationary. Adjust the peg inwards until it is fairly tight, and then back off at least one flat on the lock nut.

By the way, looking at your video, it looks like the rubber top hose has a split in it, close to the Jubilee clip? I recommend changing this soon, or replacing with the aluminium size converter that should be available from JCS, so you can then use two sections of straight rubber hose and avoid the bulge in the moulded hose.

All the best,

David

Hi Keith, You were right. The whole problem with my Javelin's noises was the muffler. I installed an old unit and the noise is gone.
When I shake the faulty unit, it sounds like there's a small stone inside. Do you think it can be repaired?
Best regards

Sorry for late reply. It should be easily repaired. A weld has probably broken inside. You will need to open up the outer cylinder. You may be able to see what is loose with an endoscope stuck up the inlet or outlet pipe.

Good evening, does anyone know what a Javelin exhaust silencer looks like inside and how it works? Thank you very much.

The silencer will also have a stuffing probably made of fibreglass.
