TLL81

Why not tell us about your car (start with a picture) and say what you have done with it; either restoring or using it over the years. Restoration of particular parts is of special interest. Club members can have their space on in their Personal Album to do this.

Having taken this on, and I have to say my most ambitious project to date, it's ticking along nicely, received various parts from jcs, noted the flexible hoses were shorter by about 4" havnt tried them on the car yet, bodily for a car that's been from member to member the body is solid with general repairs required and sorting out of boxes, does anyone remember when it was last on the road, I have a newspaper cutting from 92, the car is the same as I bought it, onwards and upwards as they say

Update on the bodywork, it's a long laborious process, found the original bonnet strengthening panel for the bonnet stay was missing, acquired another bonnet, then after fitment and primed found the missing part, also the Jowett box is numbered 3000 ISH looks in very good condition but gear selection on the bench is hit and miss with the bell housing attached, but it's getting better, I have another Jowett box 6000 ISH but the gears look quite worn, been refurbing the fuel tank, it was full of sand, used white vinegar and baking soda, it's been nearly a year but all is going well, found a as found picture, definitely a barn find

Bodywork is nearing completion, sorted out the sloppy steering, and discovered how the air flap levers went

Got the engine where I want it, JSC helped me out with a matching head, 2 different ones were found, all the gaskets I needed, and hydraulic tappets, found valves worn out and the piston rings stuck, engine now built up, just got a temporary wiring loom to make up and see how it runs on the trolley, this seems to be an engine made up of different bits, it has a late crank and crankcases, early 48 timing cover, early distributor, hydraulic tappets, the biggest problem, there was no identifying engine number on the raised casting at the front, it's just blank, it had run in the past many years ago so hopefully will run again

Another difficult item to restore the speedometer, the numbers are reverse printed on the glass not on the Speedo dial, I had a mate using his computer print the complete Speedo face, I was quite pleased with the result, now the other gauges to do

It was printed onto self adhesive white vinyl similar to what they use on the emergency signs in the coach/bus industry, cut on a laser cutter, then you carefully peel off the backing, quite sticky stuff, I have a few spares, the clever bit is the person on the computer who designed it

It would be worth keeping the files used for the printing and perhaps sharing them on here. Then they can be used in future with the right equipment or taken to a printers.

If you cannot attach them to JT then please email to me

The work was done by a mate who has gone to Spain for 8 weeks, he did it on his computer and his vinyl printer, I'll ask when he gets back, as the temp and fuel are the same I'll see if he can replicate those aswell
