You show me yours I will show you mine

Post by David Kemp »

Many Jowett fanciers seem to be struggling with driving their Jowetts to events.
Without our cars being seen they will fade away .
I propose we have an international park my Jowett on the driveway day.
This should encourage all Jowett owners to charge up the battery put fuel in their cars & possibly drive around the block to blow out the cob webs.
It may revive the spark we all had when we 1st bought our vehicles & may inspire a passer by to wonder what your car is.
I have had a young lad tell me my car is cool.
It will probably stick in his brain till he can afford one.
You can all probably remember saying I will buy one of those one day as kid.
Let's plant the seed for future generations.
Any thoughts on this proposal?
Good memories of Bradfords.

There is always something both in & outside my workshop - The lane on which my house & workshop is sited is a public right of way and always has pedestrians walking by and looking admiring the cars - the lane is non through road and only serves the 5 properties on it but still sees a fair number of passing vehicles

My Javelin Taxi normally sits outside

Currently the ex Factory Earl Court Motor Show 1952 SC Jupiter is with me for restoration assessment but under cover

And this recently recovered barnfind Jupiter SA is with me after being lost since & unused 1967

In the workshop is 1953 Jupiter currently in build for historic racing with the Crossley Motorsport Team

They generate a lot of interest - I even have regulars (Non classic owning) who call in to see what's in the yard & workshop

Q: Will they inspire ownership of a Jowett ?
A: Sadly I very much doubt it
Q: Will I spend hours each week explaining to non Jowett owners / public just what the cars are about and what makes them special
A: Very much so
Q: Will I spend hours / days on club business promoting / organising / fetching & carrying / attending to mammoth amount of behind the scenes stuff
A: It's very difficult to account for it all or put it into words - by & large its appreciated by the vast majority - sadly there's a few members that don't see the bigger picture and never will

Thank you for your reply.
Like all sales people know ...
The more people you approach the higher your chances of success.
The greater your product has exposure the greater your chances of success.
Waiting for your customer to realise they need your product is sales death.
The easiest product to sell is the one you are passionate about.
So folks let's get out there & have fun with our cars , hopefully with everyone involved we get one new sale.
Good memories of Bradfords.
