SOUTH WEST SECTION Hello everyone, I hope you are well and happy. Well Alan has
now given the Weasel a new coat, it does look very nice, he has worked so hard in
between the day job. such an achievement when you do it yourself. He will be taking it to
Goodwood, I'm looking forward to the photos. After Goodwood it will be the next project,
he has also bought a Kestrel for another future project, no keeping him down. A good job
Lucy likes projects too. Nick Thom has purchased a Jupiter for restoration, good luck
Nick. The South West has certainly got a lot going on, Alan and I went to The West
Somerset Railway rally, so much there, a lovely day.
We are flying the flag at Ottery St Mary, this will be in next month's magazine.
OCT 1st: Quince Honey Farm, Aller Cross, South Molton,EX36 3RD. meet 12pm for lunch 12.30. Please
let me know if you wish to attend. Lots to see.
Keep well and safe everyone. - Phyll A Bartlett
Tales from the Teignmouth Garage August 2023
Following on from my last catch up with you all, I'm please to report that its all systems
go on the rebuild of our soon to be beautiful Cybil (Aka Jowett 10/4). Firstly, my mate,
who is doing a sterling job on the body work, in my absence, offered to fit the radiator.
However on my return I soon learnt that only a Jowett minded mechanic can undertake
such a job! After we shared a chuckle together we sorted it and whilst there we also trial
fitted the bonnet and front panels. I have to say, even without paint, Cybil looked mighty
fine.
Having made up my own brackets, I was able to fit the floor boards on both sides. In
anticipation, I had already prepared and painted the underside of the wood. It was about
this time that all my hopes had been shattered and common sense needed to prevailed in
making me realise that Cybil would not be ready for Goodwood this year and so I will be
taking the 'Ole faithful' Javelin.
Talking of which, the Javelin news is that I have spotted yet another oil leak! This was
after a 24-mile round trip to a rally in Paignton. On inspection it was found to have come
from the by pass hose on the oil filter housing, and so I motored on up to The Exeter Sky
Park to visit the hydronic people where I sourced a set of Dowty washers. Needless to
say, these are now all fitted and THAT leak seems cured, but it is a Javelin! Whilst my
mind was on the Javelin and with Goodwood taxi duties creeping up, I also decided to fit
a supplementary cooling fan . . . anything to keep her cool.
On a lighter note, my job this weekend is to load the picnic basket into the Ole faithful
Javelin and motor over to the East of the county so that we can fly the Jowett banner at a
very chilled rally in Exmouth. Happy motoring to you all - Nigel Jarrett
