NORTH EAST SECTION The NY500 event of 23rd July went ahead as planned in what
can only be described as the wettest weekend we have had in years! Jane and I came
over the moors from Whitby in torrential rain, the road was flooded in several places, but
we arrived early to sort out the arrangements. Several Northern members were staying at
the Black Bull just outside Pickering, and amazingly, the rain stopped just as they arrived
and stopped for most of the day, with only a couple of showers.
Normally classic cars arrive at the venue during the weekend whilst out on road runs,
but as the weather was so awful we had the venue almost to ourselves! So, what I was
expecting to be a disaster turned out to be a most enjoyable day.
There were eight Jowetts in attendance: - Roy & Anne Sumpner 1935 Standard Saloon,
Mike Worker Jupiter PLB 552, Tony & Valerie Barr 1937 8 DLW 898, Bob & Joan Dyson
Bradford Lorry 716 UXO, Mike & Jennifer Smith Javelin KTC 709, Pat & June Kaye White
Lady KW 7912, Len & Sue Peach Jupiter RPL 519, Colin & Jacquie Holding Javelin HBD
600 plus four moderns with twenty-one Jowetteers in attendance. Five of the Northern
Section cars went off in convoy to Thornton-le-Dale to take a picture outside Mathewson’s
before returning home which made a great picture.
I would like to pass on my huge vote of thanks to the intrepid Jowetteers who made the
trip to the event, I would also like to thank Robert Meekings who arranged for the Northern
members to attend. My thanks also go to our Club Treasurer, Steph Benning, for the
generous donation which enabled every attendee to receive a bacon bap and coffee on
arrival and a souvenir mug to commemorate the event. Also, Chris and Sharon at the
Jowett Shop for producing the mugs for us.
Following the success of the NY500 event I am pleased to say that we are working on
another joint event with the Northern Section in September. The York Historic Vehicle
Group (YHVG), have their main rally each year on York Racecourse, this year it is on 17th
September. Robert Meekings, the Northern Secretary, has been in touch with the organisers
of the event and we have been promised an allocated area so we can have a special
Jowett display. If you would like to come, you will need to fill in an entry form which is
available on the YHVG website www.yhvg.uk the entry fee is £5.00. I do hope you may be
able to come as it is a large and popular event, as it will finish off our season beautifully.
