Overheat
Just a question, the bottom hose failed in my 52 Javelin, the temperature hit 100 but instantly cut the engine, allowing to cool down and replaced the hose with a new one. Since that the temperature fluctuates between 75 and half way to next mark on guage. It loses coolant on a run, say about an inch down on top of radiator. I've tried k seal but didn't make much difference. I've now ordered a head set. However I'm wondering is it just the gasket or could there be something else amiss. Has anyone ever had a javelin overheat and from experience what issues was there after.

Try searching for ' overheating' on JT.
Yes there may be other reasons but I have suggested ways to determine if the head gasket has gone. Do some research on JT which will show you various ways and other causes.

Hi Donal,
Don’t assume the worst. The head gaskets(s) might be fine. As Keith says, there is advice on JT and I would check the following before rushing to replace the gaskets :-
1. Are one or more plugs wet?
2. Is there white smoke from the exhaust on tick over?
3. Is she harder to start from cold?
4. Are there bubbles in the radiator header tank when running?
5. Are there water droplets on the underside of the oil filler cap?
6. Are all four plugs about the same colour?
My suspicions are that the thermostat might have been affected by the temperature going up to 100 degrees. It would be easy to lift this out and see if she runs more normally without it?
As for the water level dropping in the header tank, mine always did this. If you filled her up, she would just dump the top inch of the water out from the overflow, and then maintain the lower level without it getting any worse.
You mentioned that you have tried K Seal. I think there are two versions of this product. One is the ‘Noddy’ version and the second is the professional version, which is more expensive but does do the trick. I would repeat the process, but try the better version.
