Petrol pumps

Post by Tony Fearn »

I'm having a spot of bother with the petrol pump on the 'Flying Fox' i.e. it's not working.
I've scanned the relevant page from the 'Book of the Jowett' and thought I'd post images here for posterity as the originals in the book are rather small.

Hi Tony. I would guess it's the diaphragm, however, years ago I had similar problems and when I took the pump cover off to investigate I found a large amount of black goo blocking the exit of the pump! I put this down to the fact the inside of the tank was sealed with a 'slosh' product many years ago and this was the result of petrol depositing particles of it onto the filter in the pump.

Hi Ken, I would think you're correct about the diaphragm.
The sediment bowl is half-full with petrol, but no end of pumping with the lever will fill it up.
I shall leave investigation 'til after 'The Weekend'.
I'm coming modern as if I need to get back home quickly I'll have a better chance.
See you there.
Tony.
