Please read the guidance in the link above.
Synopsis.
Fires and explosions caused by careless handling of petrol during vehicle
maintenance occur all too easily. Even small leaks and spills of petrol have the
potential to escalate into a major incident.
Petrol fires are usually serious and often result in fatal or major injuries, either to the
person doing the maintenance work or to other employees and even customers
who may be nearby. There is often major property damage as well.

Some points I take away.

Even small electric sparks can ignite the petrol vapour drifting along the floor of a garage.
Disconnect battery and do not switch on or off any electric equipment.
Elecric motors generate sparks!
Dispose of any rags used to mop up outside and not in a bin.
If using a metal container to collect, use an earth strap to elimiate static electricity sparking.
Do not wear plastic pants or nylon shirt!
