Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held at Botcheston Village Hall
on 12th October 2019
A total of 36 people signed the attendance register.
President’s opening address – Malcolm Oliver thanked everyone for attending the meeting, wished those unable
to attend through illness well and wants to remember those who have passed away this year.
It has been a good 12 months for events and shows up and down the country, the taxis at Goodwood, the two
NEC shows where the Show Membership attracted some new members, a good turnout at the Ex-Employees.
JCS, the Shop, Jowetteer and the website keep us well supplied and informed and thanked all who give up their
time for these, also the organisers of the Grantham Rally and the members of the EC for their work.
Thanks to Steph Benning for taking on the Treasurer’s role, Tim Brown who is stepping down as International
Secretary, Keith Wear who is stepping down as Film Librarian after 35 years of service having built up a
magnificent film library for the club, Ian Roxburgh for his considerable contribution to the club and the EC over a
lot of years, Sara Young and Duncan Pound for setting up the Jowett Facebook page.
Hopefully the issue with the Severnside section can be resolved.
Chair’s opening address – Paul Beaumont welcomed everyone to the meeting. Thanked the EC for their work,
Barbara Atack for her work as Membership Secretary and liaising with Botcheston, Chris Spencer for his time on
the Bradford Industrial Museum Jowett 10 and the Javelin now at Bicester Heritage, Keith Clements for his work
as Webmaster, Sara Young and Duncan Pound for the Facebook page and the members who have posted on it.
He also thanked John Cash for the outstanding Jowetteer every month, the JCS team who give up their Monday
evenings to supply us all with parts, and Geoff Wills and his team for organising the 2020 rally.
As Keith Wear is stepping down as Film Librarian after 35 years, we need a replacement who can take the role
forward making the most of the digital services now being used. Hopefully lots of members will support the NEC
Classic Car Show in November. The vehicle register is still being worked on, please help by sending vehicle details
in. Please let officers know if there are things you would like to see the club doing, or not doing.
Sue Mason added thanks to Jack Moon for sending out the electronic Jowetteer every month.
APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE Andy Jackson, Ian Roxburgh, John Champion, Amy Clements, Noel Stokoe, Sandra
Purves, Michael & Jennifer Smith, Peter Holden, Wendy Oliver, Phyllis & Alan Bartlett, Bernard Gillett, Eden
Lindsey, Jack Mitchell, Alastair Gregg, Peter Pfister. Andy Jackson, Tim & Pauline Brown, Noel Stokoe, Danuta &
John Morgan, Hazel & Greg Jackson, Steven & Judith Gray, Barbara Atack, Sandra Purves, Eden Lindsey, Tony
Fearn, Joe Mason, Amy Clements, Sharon McCormack-Spencer, Peter Pfister, Wendy Oliver, Peter Holden.
1. ELECTION OF TELLERS- Keith Clements, John Cash.
2. MINUTES OF 2018 AGM – The minutes were accepted as a true record – proposed Keith Wear, seconded David Mason.
3. MATTERS ARISING – None.
4. TREASURER’S REPORT – Steph Benning presented the accounts which had been circulated to the membership.
Steph thanked Drummond for his help and everything handed over. Section and Rally treasurers need to send
their audited accounts in by 14th August each year. Public Liability Insurance costs have increased, Commissions
from insurance companies have decreased, Jowetteer costs are around the same. The website costs, hosting
licencing, hardware should remain stable over the next few years. There is now an active club PayPal account –
Jowett Car Club Ltd. Users will incur a £2 transaction charge. The club is looking for a Treasurers Assistant.
Steph is not recommending an increase in Membership fee this year.
Proposed to accept the accounts by Drummond Black, seconded Keith Wear – Unanimous.
Geoff Wills asked if the Spares Levy needed to be increased, Michael Koch-Osborne said it does not need raising
at the moment but JCS are keeping an eye on costs.
5. CLUB OFFICERS’ REPORTS
5.1. MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY – Barbara Atack – Still getting some renewals for this year.
Currently 486 Memberships, which is 707 total members, 46 non-renewals and 38 new members since January.
Please fill in and return renewal forms and tick the relevant boxes to cover data protection.
5.2. EDITOR – John Cash – Thanked all the contributors to the Jowetteer so far and future contributors.
Sue Mason thanked John and Lorna Jowett for their work on the March edition of Jowetteer.
5.3. PRESS OFFICER – Noel Stokoe – It’s been another busy year, with several articles and photographs in the motoring
press, plus several Jowetts appearing on Channel 4’s Great British Car Journeys. My book on the Bradford Van is
due to be published in December 2019.
5.4. LIBRARIAN – Noel Stokoe – The Library has been quiet in the last 12 months. The photo album to mark Douglas
Rawson’s 90th birthday will be sent to the archive.
5.5. COMPETITION SECRETARY – Keith Clements – It’s been an eventful year, the highlight was Christian Horner racing
the Javelin at Goodwood, there have been several Inter Register events and hillclimbs, the Jupiter raced at Spa.
Would like to see more members supporting them.
5.6. WEBMASTER – Keith Clements – Last year the website had a major update, now working on updating the member
services, keeping members details secure. The system can generate a list of members within a specified radius
of an event. Has been working with Keith Wear to have the film library available through the website.
It was proposed Michael Smith, seconded John Cash that Keith Clements and Keith Wear have the discretion to
workout which films can be made public if they are beneficial to the club and the marque – Unanimous.
5.7. FILM LIBRARIAN – Keith Wear – Has been considering how the films held by the club can be made more accessible
and has been working with Keith Clements to get some on the website for members.
Due to the facilities for editing film not being available to me anymore and the move to newer technology I
have decided to step down from the role but will continue short term to ensure a smooth handover.
5.8. SPARES OFFICER – Peter Holden – There is nothing to report as this is covered by JCS. I would be happy to stand
down from the role.
John Cash proposed, seconded Michael Kavanagh that the role of Spares Officer be abolished as this is covered
by JCS – Unanimous.
5.9. JOWETT JUNIORS – Paul Beaumont – Little to report. All competitions this year have received entries and thanks
to the support at the National Rally is self-financing. Paul would like someone to take on the Jowett Juniors.
5.10. FBHVC REP – Peter Holden – Peter is at the FBHVC AGM this morning and the conference this afternoon, the
topic this year is ‘The Engagement of the Younger Generation’. Visit the FBHVC website for up to date
information, environment issues, current legislation and the DVLA.
5.11. AWARDS CO-ORDINATOR – David Mason – The proposals discussed were put In place and were well received.
5.12. JOWETT SHOP – Danuta Morgan – The shop is doing well and has a healthy bank balance. There is plenty of stock
and we have good suppliers. Danuta wants members to let her know what items they would like in the shop.
5.13. REGISTRARS
5.13.1. VINTAGE & PRE-WAR – Peter Holden – The register to be produced has details sent to Membership Secretary.
I hold some records of cars not owned by club members that will not be published. A few cars are changing
hands, but the market is depressed at the moment. There are currently 3 Edwardian, 129 Vintage, 255 Prewar
7 & 8hps, 39 Pre-war 10hps and 208 photographic and document only records.
5.13.2. BRADFORD – Paul Beaumont – Several basket case Bradfords have recently been advertised on Ebay and
found owners. The records are being reconciled for the Register.
5.13.3. JAVELIN – Eden Lindsay – There are 183 Javelins in club members’ ownership. The Javelin database goes back
to 1960 and I rely on members sending details of their cars to keep updating it. It would be a great help if
members selling their cars through Jowetteer would put the vehicle’s registration number on the advert.
There is very little information on cars being sent and it is not now in Jowetteer, if members do not send the
information about their cars it will not be in the Vehicle Register.
5.13.4. JUPITER – Ed Nankivell – No report.
5.13.5. STATIONARY ENGINES – Chris Spencer – In the last 10 years there has only been 1 stationary engine and 1
tractor at the National Rallies. Would like to have more out there for 2023.
6. JOWETT CAR SPARES – Michael Koch-Osborne – presented the JCS accounts. Trading very similar to last year
both income and expenditure. The levy will be used to pay for some items. 13 members are now working at JCS.
7. ELECTION OF OFFICERS & DIRECTORS
7.1. Director & Chair – Paul Beaumont – Proposed Geoff Wills, seconded Michael Kavanagh – Unanimous.
7.2. Director & Vice-chair – Amy Clements – proposed David Mason, seconded John Cash – Unanimous.
7.3. Director & Treasurer – Steph Benning – proposed Drummond Black, seconded Sheila Rigg – Unanimous.
7.4. Director & Chairman JCS – Michael Kavanagh – proposed Keith Wear, seconded Geoff Wills – Unanimous.
7.5. Director & Treasurer JCS – Michael Koch-Osborne – proposed Drummond Black, seconded Geoff Wills –
Unanimous.

Cash, seconded Keith Wear elected en bloc – Unanimous

7.7.9. Jowett Juniors – Paul Beaumont – Proposed Drummond Black, seconded Glyn Davies – Unanimous
7.7.10. FBHVC Rep – Peter Holden – Proposed John Cash, seconded David Mason – Unanimous
Appointments by the Executive Committee

will approach a third.
9. NATIONAL RALLIES
9.1. 2020 – Geoff Wills – Chepstow, St Pierre Hotel. The contract is based on 80 rooms with an option of a further 20.
There are 44 rooms booked to date, which will cover the cost of the stage payment due 30 November 2019. A
deposit has been lodged for the Concours site at Caldicott Castle.
9.2. 2021 – The Preston Marriott Hotel has been booked. A team is in place working on the event.
9.3. 2022 – Barbara Atack is looking at the Marriott Forest of Arden, Meriden, meeting with the hotel contact early
November to try and negotiate costs. This will be run by the EC, not asking a section to take it on.
9.4. 2023 – The Northern section are still looking for an appropriate hotel in Yorkshire.
10. SUBSCRIPTIONS
Dealt with in the Treasurer’s report.
11. ANY OTHER BUSINESS
11.1. 2023 –Amy Clements is working on ideas, focusing on 2 or 3 major events plus some local events and will bring
them to the March EC meeting.

the Bradford Industrial Museum will be worked on at the show.
11.3. Chris Spencer – The Leeds City College Javelin is at the Heritage Skills Academy, Bicester, where apprentices train.
11.4. Drummond Black – Some of the Scottish section have asked if the AGM could be held at the National Rally as this
would potentially attract more members to attend. This will be on the agenda for the March EC meeting.
11.5. John Cash – Eden’s comment about lack of information in the Jowetteer is due to the Data Protection regulations.
It is very important when renewing membership to send vehicle information even if it is just the Registration
number, No Change. Section secretaries need to contact new members to ask for details and welcome them.
11.6. Paul Beaumont – Business card – The format will be the same, just officer information to change, blank ones will
be available in the shop for members to fill in their own details. Anyone wanting cards with their details on needs
to email Paul.
11.7. Paul Beaumont – Remembrance Book – Front cover has Jowett script, absent friends, car club needs adding under
the Jowett script. There will be a standard page format for family/friends wishing to remember a club member.
Jowett Cars Ltd held their AGM today. Their accounts are in order. No production will take place in the coming
year.
The meeting closed at 4.25pm

Severnside section
Barry ChillingtonIs this section still open when i joined the club i was told that i was in this section i have tried to find out but to no avail. Due to this have not been able to get help or advice from members in my area feels like i am not in a car club at all.
Keith.Hi Barry,
The severnside section was not able to form a committee so has been suspended until it can. You can use the Members Services to find members close to you and arrange to meet up. You can search for those within a radius and also use the map to see those who may have the same model as you. On the map you can click a pin to see the member's details. I have search in the 3rd screenshot for those offering Javelin first aid.
