Electric cooling fan

Post by bobharvey »

I’m sure many owners have added or substituted an electric cooling fan. Is there a particular make or size that’s known to work well? And has anyone removed the engine driven fan blades, which would seem logical, decreasing noise, reducing energy waste, and speeding warm up.

Shows the 1970 version which has subsequently been replaced by a fan behind the rad controlled by the same thermostat. Other thermostats are available including ones with a bulb that easily fit in the pipe coming out of the water pump.
Various makes of fan are available, the diameter and width are the important specifications to look at. You need one to fit behind the rad. Most will rotate either way by reversing polarity of the connections. Make sure it is sucking not pushing air.

Unlike the Jup, there is not a lot of space between rad and bulkhead. On Amy's Jav the fan just slots in and does not require fixing.
I have run both Javelin and Jupiter without a mechanical fan but have retained the ability to replace it.
