Have recieved my dizzy back from the doctor.
On fitting the dizzy back have found that the drive shaft at the tongue end has a small crack at both sides.
The crackes are hardly noticable but could get larger and the tongue could break off and lose dizzy drive.
Is this a common fault or normal or should i seek another drive shaft from JCS.

Throw it away quickly! Shafts should be readily available and you don't want one breaking when you are out on the road.
While you have everything to reassemble, have a look at the amount of 'slop' that you have. There will be some from the dog on the distributor, more on the tang at the end of the shaft and finally from slack in the skew gear. It can all add up and this just means 'wobble' on the spark timing.
When it's all back together, you will discover the slack, or more pleasantly the lack of it, when you use a timing light and see the image jumping about or remaining nicely steady!
Don't throw that old defective drive shaft away; I can use it !

I have only known two of these break in 50 years and it has never happened to me. So I guess manufacture of new ones is unlikely. Some weld and fettling should make as good as new. I always carry a spare complete and ready to drop in anyway.
