My car is 1930, so your explanation fits, but how did an outside contractor know which car each bonnet assembly would be going on? Seems to me that could only be done on the production 'line' (100 cars a week, every week, and no overtime!).
The devil is in the detail!

the fitting by outside contractors ceased aroun 1921/2 but there would be a need for numbering if as I suspect bonnets were not all identical being individual to each vehicle. I suppose this would enable bonnets to be made & then removed & stored to be later united with its rightful car.

On health and safety, can we please make sure that the bottle normally available on the Scottish stand is kept well away from the rebuild participants (and for that matter any bodies in the proximity).

Jowett Engine Rebuild

Post by Drummond Black »

We have not finalised the " LIQUID LUNCH " type, however, I have a team of 10 working flat out to resolve the dillemma. How about a bottle from the Glenrothes Distillery in Morayshire of Special Reserve laid in the cask on 21st July 1975 with a character of " Ripe fruits, citrus, vanilla and a hint of spice " or maybe just a bottle of pure spring water.....!!!!!

Progress Report

Went and aquired another engine today, from Pete Holden, in evesham. Picked it up and its currently half stripped now. and almost ready for a re paint. I'm going to conjure up some kind of numbering order to make it easier for all the other Juniors/Jowetteers to work with in theory.

Hi Drummond,

No I havent yet, I'll have the measurements by tommorrow possibly by tonight, could you pass them on? If it is slightly too late I can knock something together down here.

Ps did you receive my email about the trailer park?
