Some of you have experienced issues with receiving emails from jowett.net
I usualy prompt that you should inform webmaster@jowett.net if this is the case but very few of you do!
A few have and I think I have been able to sort some, if not all of the problems.
The reason this has occured is that many more checks are put on the email system than used to be the case. The situation is constantly evolving.
In most cases non receipt of email can be solved by putting the sender (or the sender's domain) into your safe senders list.
This is OK if you know who the sender is and you take the trouble to investigate and fix in your receiving email system.
But this is beyond the capabilities of many users or they cannot be bothered.
I have spent many, many hours researching this and then many, many hours implementing a solution.
The real problem is that jowett.net is run on the cheap on a shared server so I cannot implement the system that would solve the issue easily. Perhaps 20% of its users have this issue.
A proper server to hold all the jowett.net resources would cost many hundreds of pounds a year to host.
Instead I have implemented a mail service that takes the important emails and sends them using a more reliable service. This duplicates the mail service just like you might in a war by employing two runners (or pidgeons) to send a message.
Now, as I said, the new system sends the important emails that way, but not all, because once again it will cost lots of cash to send ALL the emails that way. So if you want good communication with jowett.net you should fix your system so that it receives emails from the domain @jowett.net
I am currently investigating if there is a similar problem with JowettTalk.
You can help by testing yourself. You can try sending each other emails using JowettTalk. Click on 'QuickLinks', 'Members', and choose a Member. then click on 'Send email to' in the 'Contact' section. On the 'Send email' form make sure the tick box for 'Send email to yourself' is set. Please let me know if this does not work for you, but of course check in your UCP profile that JowettTalk knows your current email address.
I am also investigating a mail system for JowettTalk that might do a better job and will not cost anything apart from days of my time.

Safe Senders.
You can do this within your "Windows Live" or "Hotmail" account, by following the instructions below:
Log in to your "Windows Live" or "Hotmail" account.
Select "Options" then "More Options..." from the toolbar.
Follow the "Safe and blocked senders" link under "Preventing junk emails".
Click "Safe Senders".
Type "create.net" to mark all of our messages to you as safe.
Click "Add to list >>."
If you are using Outlook to read your mail then the procedure is slightly different. But this may depend on version you are using.
Actually, the new Outlook.com still has a “safe sender” list. It’s just in a different place. To list a sender as safe, click on the Settings icon in the upper-right corner, then at the bottom of the window that pops up click on “View all Outlook settings.” Next, click on Junk Email and then scroll down to “Safe Senders and Domains.” You can enter any domains or addresses that you want to mark as safe.
To mark items in the Junk Email folder as not junk mail, simply right-click on the item and select, “Mark as not junk mail
Tim Thornton reports he was unable to put the domain @jowett.net into the list but was able to put noreply@jowett.net and webmaster@jowett.net and jowettn1@jowett.net in.

Re: Issues with email
I am still investigating with the help of some members issues with email. These arise because of continuing efforts by 'the Internet community' to reduce spam.
The problems arise because senders, sender's email facility, senders host, receiver's email service and client, and receiver may have set up different services and rules many of which are changing frequently. It is a bit like what happened when delivery companies, other than the Post Office which had a monopoly, started up.
Below is just part of the issue. If you think you are not getting emails from JowettTalk, jowett.net or jowett.,org then please contact me. If you check each of these facilities by sending me a message using them and you get a confirmation email then we will know they are working from you. If you do not then you may be missing out receiving important emails from the system or other members.
Your help will show me the extent of the problem and perhaps solve some issues.

Safe sender lists
Email providers filter incoming emails in a bid to reduce the amount of unwanted emails in your inbox and often these emails can either go straight into your junk folder or they may not even make it to your inbox.
1. JowettTalk and Jowett Member Services uses email during registration and for other communications so you need to make sure you receive the messages sent by the system to you.
2. The club uses email to inform you about events.
3. JowettTalk users can send messages to other JowettTalk users.
4. A member of the public can send a contact message to a club officer using the contact form on the jowett.org or jowett.net website.
You should test each of these to make sure you can communicate. As a quick test use the contact form on jowett.net and send a message. You should receive an email confirmation of your message from webmaster@jowett.net .
I am currently revamping the email systems used by the websites so things may change in the near future. Email has been used in many places to communicate with users and over 20 years some of the programming used is now out of date. Any feedback you can give will help sort out any issues we have.
You can prevent losing these messages in your spam or junk folder (or not getting them at all) by telling your mail system you want mail from specific mail addresses or from all senders from a domain such as jowett.net or jowett.org
Here are some tips on how to do it for different mail providers, but there may be differences with the different version you use or on different devices.
Note the domains are jowett.net and jowett.org and jowett.club and the most common email addresses used by the various website components are webmaster@jowett.net , noreply@jowett.net , jowettn1@jowett.net , webmaster@jowett.org , webmaster@jowett.club
