Stiff steering.

Post by Forumadmin »

Hi; first of all apologies if I have sent this message to the wrong
department, but I confess to finding your website challenging. I have a
1949 Javelin with stiff steering. First port of call was a general grease-
up, but I then turned my attention to the box. I bought some Millers
steering box oil, but it leaks out again where the swivel arm comes out of
the box. Could I try a general grease using a grease gun or is it time for
a new box, and is there such a thing? Thanks for reading! Cheers.
All boxes leak profusely. Do not worry. Unlikely to be the box unless it has been damaged. Check steering ball height, as if set wrongly can lock up steering. Disconnect track rods and see, if still stiff. Maybe the steering balls have been tightened too much or even rusted up. .
Look at the Maintenance manual pg 66 in this list
