I'm sending this to Hon. Ed., but I thought I'd put it in this section as well.
I’m clearing a bit of Jowett dross from the garage, and came across these interesting artefacts from a vehicle I scrapped many years ago.
I kept the rods as patterns just in case anyone wanted to know what the lengths of the various brake rods should be on the pre-war 7hp 4-door saloons.
This was well before we had an organised spares set-up. In those days most of us had to ‘make do and mend’, except for when we needed proper engineering.
The photos speak for themselves, and show worn against ‘new’.
The clevis pin is worn half through, and the end of the brake rod - well!
These items are hidden underneath the vehicle, and split pins have to be removed to ascertain wear, but if it’s some time since they were checked on a member’s car, perhaps they should be looked at.
I would expect that the holes that they went in were rather oval-shaped to boot.
Tony.

Re: Worn brake parts
Tony - This design was still being utilised on the Javelin but on the clutch rod at the pedal end - when I did the gearbox & clutch on my Javelin at the start of this year I found a oval hole in the pedal base and the rod at circa half of its original diameter although someone had bodged this by making a shim up from a aluminium drinks can of all things

Re: Worn brake parts
Hi Chris,
When I saw these at first, and realising that they were 'hidden' underneath the car, so difficult to see, and perhaps never looked at in those days, I was reminded of the flexible pipe between the Jupiter petrol tank and the filler, which you wrote about.
That's why I thought I should post it here.
A catastrophe in the making.
Tony.
