Re: Colors available for Jupiter
A couple of photos of 822 Roger Stevens The original paint on the side of the dash with the front apron held against it to check that the color was consistent in different parts of the car. A closer look shows where the new color match paint was dabbed in the middle to check the match.
The other pics just for an idea of how the paint looks.
IIRC, polishing/buffing resulted in the lighter, brighter color over the dull darker parts.

Re: Colors available for Jupiter
Scott - I see what you mean about the Mini colour being too blue - from memory of the early 70's colour ranges it would be worth checking the following manufactures whom had a very similar colour in their range - Audi, Toyota & Datsun - I will do a little more research this evening to see if I can come up with some colour names / brands

Re: Colors available for Jupiter
Thanks everyone for your effort. I really would love to get this Jowett colour in a sample pot before committing.
In every photo ut looks different, which as Scott you noticed depends on your monitor as well.
Is it possible Scott to take your panel to a local paint shop & get the nearest code you can? Preferably a shop that uses a well known paint, Dulux. Rustoleum etc?

Re: Colors available for Jupiter
Mine was originally Turquoise, but unlike yourself couldn't live with it (and red interior) so on restoration it was painted BRG, with beige.
Mine had been repainted, but in the early 1970’s, so was an excellent match when I discovered the original coat. Tim’s looks OK to me from the small shots. I have just gone to my car to retrieve my original photos which I had as a small pack showing the restoration. Sadly they have disappeared, so I don’t know what’s happened to them. They have been with me in the car over 20 years. If I find any more I can put one up here. Every bit of mine was covered and I don’t recall having any original bits left now with paint on, but will check.

David:
Agreed it is always better to lay eyes on the color.
I plan to call TCP Global again on Tues to see if I can find my original contact person. TCP makes their own paints. The ICI code is the key, much like Pantone codes, but it appears no one has the "decode". I had hoped Roger's can would have the breakdown on the tints, but since it does have their code info on it, they should be able to look it up. Their tints might only be good inside their paint systems.
Also, still could send the apron down, as the other bonnet on the shelf is also originally MT, but has a cheap white on top. Also,James Miller suggested we ask Roger to get a card sprayed with his left-over paint and could mail that a little easier, although I can see a number of issues with that. I expect Chris will have a better idea than I about color matching from a part or a card. For sure the primer color under the top coat can shift the color.
On the other hand, if our robot overlords can just look at a color and pump out the correct paint, perhaps we are making this too difficult!
Roger's MT with modern Jag leather/vinyl; German Hartz cloth tonneau cover per Roger's factory one; wing beading same vinyl as interior. Not quite all finished in this pic from the upholstery shop.
Mine with dark red interior

Re: Colors available for Jupiter
Regarding colour on screens...I used to use a good cathode ray tube monitor which I could adjust using software and the adjustment on the monitor to get it correct with Photoshop.
How you do that on an LCD or other modern technology I do not know. Then there are your own eyes which have a great range of perception in colours. There are various tests, many using coloured spots, to detect these differences. How this affects our choice of car colour , I do not know, but some subtle differences are often perceived as important.

Re: Colors available for Jupiter
I can get any colour matched by mass spectrometer - so if anyone wants to send either a small panel or a colour card to me - I can obtain a colour name & code for it - once obtained it can then be mixed to a formula any where in the world providing its a global supplier - its pointless obtaining old colour formulas has the tinters required to mix the specific formula are no longer available - they are also paint manufacture specific i.e. you cannot use a Lechler colour formula to mix a paint with a PPG tinting bank or a Glasurit colour formula to mix paint with a Max Meyer tinting bank

Re: Colors available for Jupiter
Scott if Roger could supply painted piece of Aluminium or card , that would be great. either to myself or Chris so the club can start a record.
Colour is very personal , some guys wear suits others would not be buried in.
We also change over time , young children love bright primary colours, just before death beige seems to be the go1
I still have a bit of living to do , so my choice of turquoise

Re: Colors available for Jupiter
Seems like the plan would be to send an apron to Chris so that the club has an "official" color for others to use. TCP will not send a color card (very polite but firm) and suggested buying a quart for me to make cards!??!?
Roger has agreed to pop open his can and see about doing a card. But now I'm thinking that this is a horseshoes and hand grenade approach, as the card version might be off from the TCP version and may be off from a Chris version.
Ideas?

Re: Colors available for Jupiter
A quart would cover about a third of your car and at US $129.95, a little too pricey. Let's see what comes of Roger's efforts and I will send an apron off the Chris. MT was a very common color in the US, perhaps not so in the home market, but I suppose there are very few cars that have not been re-painted.
TCP offered to sell me a quart of MT as acrylic enamel, along with an explanation of how to spray it properly so that the metallic particles would be at the surface. That was only $70!
Since auto paint is considered hazardous, can't send even a small sample your way.

Re: Colors available for Jupiter
$70 is not outrages if used to paint aluminium strips, then supplied to wax
ch Jowett club branch as a sample.
However that would require interest from each branch.
To get me moving could you please ask Roger to dunk a coke can or other aluminium strip into his paint tin.
I will pay for postage for the strip.

Re: Colors available for Jupiter
I will check with Roger today. He was going to dip something and check against his car to see the match. One possible problem is that the metallic particles will not suspend properly in a dipped or brushed sample. I'm thinking the thickness of the paint might be a problem as well.
Stay tuned!
