Hi New to Jowetts,
I have a Javelin with the two Zenith carbs ,The drivers side intake is
pumping like air compressing pump and the last owner has covered
up the wire mesh so it has only half the area free ,the carb bolts look down
and the other side is not doing this ,if a hand is held over the air intake
it then becomes a lot less noticeable ,any ideas would be helpful.
The last owner said He rebuilt the carbs These motors are just not
what I am used to so sorry to if I seem seem to be slow ,the car runs
and drives but adjustment on the carbs seems work the slow running bar
slows the engine down but what I think is the mixture screw seems to
have no bearing in or out

Re: carb intakes
Hi Bill,
That does not sound correct. Of course there could be many things wrong. First remove that obstruction to the air flow. Some pictures attached to your post would help!
Here are some questions.
1. Are all the plug colours the same and are they grey (not black or white)?
2. Is the amount of sucking the same from each carb when idling and fast idling? Use a couple of feet of plastic/rubber pipe to listen through or use a carb balancing meter.
3. Is there any petrol leaking onto the top of the head and does the pump show resistance when manually primed?
If you are a club member (currently you are not in the club member's group so please indicate if you think you should be) then you can use the manuals available in the Club Library to see how the carbs should be set up.

Re: carb intakes
Thank you Keith,
I used a unisyn device on the air intake and the
drivers side one has twice the amount of air ,indeed
petrol is around the base of the carb not a great deal, and the plugs are all a little
black but dry

Re: carb intakes
Balance throttles and fit new or lap in needle valves or add washer under the leaking one.
Check for worn carbs and leaks with tube to ear.
