Jupiter window winder mechanisms

Post by Srenner »

Throwing a line out to see if anyone has a set of these. Scott Tisdale's Jupiter 266 (ex-Red Skelton, ex-Ted Miller) is in the shop for cosmetic restoration and does not have them. Ted had no spares and must have sold off the parts by mistake.

If I can not purchase a set, I will be making them. Luckily, the gear/spring/mounting plate mechanism is common through the 70's, so the actuating arms are the parts to be fabricated. I will be sure to document the process. Anyone else need these?

I am trying to remember what I did with mine. I think I used parts of a Javelin pair to renovate mine but not in the last renovation of the SA.

Hi Keith , window winder mechanisms not a problem for Jupiters, just source a pair of javelin ones and shorten and reweld the arms, Tell Scott we can supply him all he needs! Neil

Well, Javelin window cranks are even rarer in the US than Jupiter ones!

I have to compare what I have against a Jupiter mechanism to see if it would be easier if I had a Javelin as the starting point. Never a dull moment restoring Jupiters.

Jowett Car Spares occasionally get asked for these and I am sure that the reply usually is to modify Javelin ones. JCS has a number of these. If someone can supply details of the Jupiter ones I am sure I can get some modified.

Pulled the door card off my Jav today to see how close the winder mechanism is to the Jupiter one. Mmm, not very!

I will be using a set of Nash Metropolitan winders, as they are at least as close as the Javelin. Might even be easier, as the Jav has two parallel arms that actuate another arm with the sliders, whereas the Jupiter' arms act directly on the sliding mechanism, as does the Nash. Also, I think the gear mechanism is clocked differently on the Jav and the Nash and Jup already have one arm in the correct position. I will try to document the process.
