Hi Keith
I had a look but wasn't sure where to post to. I'm not very clued up on forums etc.
I'm a sheet metal contractor I also have a small workshop of my own. Do you think that there would be any demand for replacement parts like the bonnet?
Thanks Chris

Re: Replacement body panels
Hi Chris,
Good to hear from you. Are you a member?
To try and answer your question, the reply is a Yes and No. Speaking as a Javelin owner, one of the large panels like a bonnet is an item for which there probably would not be a big demand. They are easy to remove from a scrap car and many owners will probably have a few stashed away. And anyway, they don't really rot away. The same goes for boot lids, although these do crack internally by the hinges.
I know the Club can supply ( or at least did? ) repair panels for the lower sections of the doors. The front and rear wings rot out on their trailing and leading edges respectively, but it would probably be difficult to replicate the compound curves?
On a much more positive note, there probably would be a demand for repair sections for the chassis sections that are prone to rot. I am not sure what is available from the Club, but the sections I am talking about are the front chassis legs under the engine, which develop stress cracks around the lower front suspension mounts, all four outriggers and the complex sections of the ends of the rear chassis on both sides, ahead of the rear wheels.
Do hope this helps?
David

Re: Replacement body panels
Has stated the larger panels such has the boot & bonnet are really low demand and there are certainly enough secondhand panels of this nature to meet the demand - the club spares department can supply front & rear out riggers along with the centre jacking point for the Javelin, door bottoms & the lower section for the door skins - although these require quite a bit of rework to obtain a decent fit but are good enough for the purpose intended - sills for the Javelin are also available via Jowett Car Spares - Chassis sections are primarily a box section and they perforate in different areas on different cars and are better tackled insitu same goes for the rear chassis section has this is 3 skins all coming together at the same point to form the strength for the rear axle link - it all needs to be done piecemeal has one skin covers the next - wings do rot out over the leading edges of the doors - I make my own repair sections up for these - please see attached pics
JCS is hoping to trial a refurbished rear wing scheme for the Javelin (Panel will be bare metalled dipped, all fabrication repairs undertaken and the panel trued up and supplied in primer) - the scheme will be subject to supply of suitable / repairable panels being made available but we currently hold enough stock to do this
Sill sections for the Jupiter are available and I am just reworking the patterns for the bottom of the A post / bulkhead - I am also patterning the rear inner wing / splash panels for the Jupiter
Bradford panels are mainly flat panels with the exception of the wings and the vast majority of Bradford panels can be repaired easily and I am currently restoring a second bulkhead & windscreen aperture for one
I am quite happy to supply advice / help assist as needed in conjunction with the JCS team
Most panels can be repaired in the right hands but you need to factor the scale of economy - in this case it was easier & more economic to repair than replace / remake a new wing - but that is not always the case

Re: Replacement body panels
I am going to pass your details on to our spares team - larger panels like the Jupiter bonnet that you have done will occasionally be needed - I am ok with the smaller repairs on panels but do not have the facilities or room to fabricate full panels from scratch (I run a small specialist restoration business & Jowett's are the mainstay of my work) it's easier for me to outsource the panel work so if you want to pm me your details there is probably business that we can do - Chris
