I passed my driving test in the Jowett

Why not tell us about your car (start with a picture) and say what you have done with it; either restoring or using it over the years. Restoration of particular parts is of special interest. Club members can have their space on in their Personal Album to do this.

I passed my driving test in the Jowett

Post by Forumadmin »

Thanks for your email reminding me about the Jowett site.
I registered some years ago out of interest, as for many years I owned a 1934 Jowett "Flying Fox, a quite large 7 hp saloon, which I stripped down completely and rebuilt using a duplicate car which I found lying in a farmer's field.

Before that is was owned by my father, so it was in the family from 1940 until I gave it away in 1964.
I actually went to the original factory site in Idle, Bradford, when it was closed down in 1954 to buy several new spares before they disappeared.

I passed my driving test in the Jowett in Durham in 1949 when I was 17, I think the examiner was glad to finish the test still in one piece.

So my rather nostalgic memories have not diminished, as I had so many experiences with the car, including losing a rear wheel.

The only thing I have left is the bulldog radiator cap and a hand book.
Regards,
Bert Jones
