Queensland week end adventure

:D Latest adventure in the Dougie Javelin.
Decided to give the Jupiter a rest [real reason was no room for the tent in a Jupiter]let alone airbed, food,clothes,guitar,wife,etc etc.
We started out ok but late ,on a run to Nanango in the Brisbane valley,the Javelin cruising nicely at about 55 to 60 mph.
2 hours saw us in Yarraman for a pit stop and a chat with an old mate,all going to plan.Left the beast parked in first gear, but on our return that is where it stayed,nothing would shift the bas***d out of first.Then hurt my thumb in the process and ended up with the RACQ [local auto club]towing the thing home. :oops:
Had to finish the week end in a Land Lover Defender, and then ferrying another Jav home.
The question is,for a hug from Dame Edna,what was the cause?
We have yet to pull the thing down to find out.
So lets hear everyones educated guesses. :roll:

Probably a broken selector arm. Can be fixed at side of road by taking side of box off. I always carry a spare.

Dougie,

I've just been to see Bob Mercer in Accrington. He used to run Javelins long time.

I mentioned your query to him.

He said that there's no synchromesh on 1st gear.

If you pull the side plate off as KC suggests, a rod should come with it.

The gear can then be levered back into "no-man's-land".

Replace the side panel with rod and all should be well.

But I forgot to ask whether the 'box has to be drained first.

By taking the side off it will drain adequately; but it might be a bit messy!

8) Thanks guys,
I have a work pit under my house that will make this a lot easier than on the side of the road,and will get to it this week end.
When the g/box was first fitted there was problems but not as bad and we changed over to the old box for the Armidale rally.Brian had a good look before we refitted this g/box and nothing was obvious.All had been ok until the other day.At least the problem should be obvious now.
