Leyburn Sprints 2007

Post by dougie »

:D Leyburn Sprint 2007 turned out to be the wettest in the 12 years of the event.
We entered the Jupiter and our 85 quattro.
Our first run in the Jupiter found a miss in the engine found to be a loose distributer and once sorted the car ran very well. Before our second run the track was damp and I found the brakes locking up into turn 2 with the tail starting to get a bit too close to the tyre wall,so had to slow down a tad.
Very wet track for the third run and a spin off turn one into the grass ,very artistic it was too but still crossing the finish line at 4000 revs in top gear.
It rained all night and all day Sunday so with having been battling the flue I decided that sitting in an open car in the rain wasn't a good idea, so headed for home early.
The best sight of the event for me though was watching son Chris launching the quattro off the line in the wet with spray off all four wheels and that turbo 5 cyl engine at full song.I was too sick to get a drive. :(
When I get some photos of the Jupiter I'll post them.
By the way there is a link between the Jowett Jupiter and Audi[Auto Union] with professor Von Eberhorst having involvement at Auto Union before the war and then putting his talent to work in designing the Jupiter chassie for Jowett via ERA.But then you all know that.
