Hello Dennis,

Don't know if you're in the Club, but perhaps if no-one else replies then a phone call to our Pre-War Registrar might be able to shed a little light on YL 7334. It's chassis number is 53800 and all I can find at the moment is the 2001 Register of Jowett vehicles at which time it was owned by R. Cookson. There must be some more detail in later registers but I can't put my hand on them just now.

If You aren't a Club member (and I can't see your name in the 2007 membership listings) then send me a private email through JowettTalk and I will give you the Registrar's phone number - but see below.

There is quite a number of vintage short two Jowetts on the road at the moment and you won't be alone if you decide on this car, but I suggest you have a trip to Malcolm's place to see it for yourself.

I de-toured there a couple of years ago on the way to the Beaulieu National Autojumble when I was interested in a series IIIA Sunbeam Rapier that they had for sale. I must say that it was a very pleasant experience. Malcolm and his sons are lovely people. There is no pressure, and you know that they're as interested as you are in the older vehicles - not surprisingly. (I didn't buy the Sunbeam as it needed a lot of work).

I've just noticed that you are retired like me. If you're interested in Jowetts then the best thing to do is to join the friendliest Car Club in the world. You will never regret doing it. If you are anywhere within striking distance of the Bradford Industrial Museum, then next Saturday (18th August) there is a Jowett Club Meet with the Ex-employees of the Jowett factory (1pm onwards). There will be many Jowetts there from around 1926 to 1953. Just the place to be if you don't yet own a vintage Jowett. You will be able to look at a number of them, and the Registrar is one of the organisers so he will be present all day.

If you do decide to come to Bradford then make youself known to me - my car is a 1934 Short Saloon with "Mary Ellen" written on the bonnet, and I will show you around the cars and introduce you to Ian, our Pre-war Registrar.

I know this is a little long-winded with regard to your post but it will be worth it if you decide to buy the Short Two and join the Club.

Best wishes,

Tony.
