This is my first attempt at JowettTalk, so I hope it works OK.
I am hoping to find out more about the origins of the Javelin convertible that appeared on the Jowett stand at the 1948 Motor Show. The car still survives and has been restored over a long period of time to a very high standard.
Some years ago I asked Gerald Palmer about it, but he did not know how the car came about and saw it for the first time at the show!
It was said to have been done in London by Carlton? but who were they, and who authorised it?

Hi there Leo and Noel,
There is a picture of a convertable Javelin in Bryan Walkers file in the NZ section of Jowett Gallery. The car is in Don Nightingails collection in Whangarei. I suspect that this may have been converted from a standard Javelin but I'm not sure. Bryan Walker may be able to shed some more light on this one.

To add to the tail, about 15years ago I was told of a convertible javelin that went to the local dump up Kaikohe way as no one wanted...
But then I could never find the remains of the Stutz that was meant to be down the West cost from Dargiville
( A motor turned up for sale in the Matakohe are that had been used in a saw mill.

Javelin Convertible

Some five or six years ago, John Prescott and I visited Saundersfoot, in South Wales, and saw a barn stuffed full of classic cars. Our interest was in Jowetts, and we were not disappointed.
There were two Javelins, one of which had been obviously converted into a convertible many years previously. The car was not a runner at that time, but was subsequently, I believe, purchased by a JCC member and may be undergoing restoration. The other cars, including the other Javelin in quite good condition, may very well be still in the barn!

Javelin convirtible
Many thanks to everybody who has replied so far, your story was particularly interesting Leo. The only one's I knew of were the 1948 show car which was a two-seater with dicky. Also a german coachbuilder did a four-seater example and a special-bodied Jupiter.
I knew about the recent recreation of a four-seater example, and it is nice to see a picture of it in this topic.
I am sure there is not one in the Peter Black Museum, but I will investigate this.
