This is probably due to a leak past the carbon seal that bears on the impeller in the pump. The purpose of the hole is to prevent a build up of water in the front bearing and of course let you know there is a problem.
The leak may clear as the seal re-seats itself with use or you may have to strip the pump and clean the seal and the impeller. This is tedious because as often as not, just disturbing the seal makes it leak!
You will probably get a lot of advice on this one, but I would tend to leave it to see what happens - especially if you use the car regularly, BUT. . . .
1) Keep an eye on your water level - it probably won't drop much,
AND
2) Don't let it persist too long as the water will eventually damage the bearing - give it a 'squirt' of water pump grease (not ordinary grease) anyway through the nipple on the housing.

Water Leak
Hi Rob,
What Ian says is absolutely true, that disturbing the pump will probably create a leak in itself!
One solution you might like to consider is to contact Alf Heseltine and see if he can supply you with a reconditioned pump. I am not sure if either JCS or Bill Lock keep the pumps or the seals, but Alf does a super job in reconditioning complete pumps, if you are interested. His address is :-
4, Highcliffe Grove
New Marske
REDCAR
Cleeveland
TS11 8DU and his phone number is 01642-477514
I hope this helps,
All the best,
David Morris

Water Pump
Rob,
I had a leaky water pump last year. I obtained new seals from Bill Lock -- they were easy to install. Also, I was able to replace the front bearing with a sealed bearing purchased from a local bearing supply shop, so I don't have to worry about greasing it any more.
Cheers,
Eric

This is excellent communication and what JowettTalk is designed for. If you know of anybody, including yourself, who has services or parts that they can offer to other Jowett owners then please make the effort to advertise them on JowettTalk. Our spares guys do an excellent job, but if we pool our combined technical knowledge to source parts we can keep Jowetts on the road and even save something to make them look pretty.
So please make lists of parts you could sell, swap or even give to others. Suggest to others that you know have parts to do the same, perhaps even go to their place and help them sort and collate them. If they are not Webwise then offer to post on JowettTalk for them.
If you know of alternative parts that have been used please write up a short description with modification and fitting details. Take pictures of them and send them to me for now, I hope to have a system that will allow you to post pictures soon aftre I get back from Aus.
