A Javelin as daily transport?

It's a long time since I used a Javelin as daily transport...actually it's about thirty years ago and back then, it was as good as gold...easy to maintain, parts weren't that difficult to find, it was great to drive and went surprisingly well.

Anyway, enough nonsense and before you think I may have lost the plot, I use a '29 Austin Seven Chummy to potter the 15 miles through the lanes to work and back, but I must admit the old thing is a bit slow and deserves a rest... if I'm in a hurry I use a Plymouth Road Runner (I like the contrast!) but that does nine to the gallon and is as wide as some of the lanes, so that will be going to a new owner shortly...that's when I thought I would renew my acquantance with one of the most interesting cars I've ever had, a Jowett Javelin.

So my question is, are they getting too old and frail to use as daily transport...or shall I just keep pottering in the Austin?

I would appreciate some honest feedback!

Cars need to be used every month or they seize up; just like humans. they need the exercise.
The only excuse should be if there is salt on the road! Cold and wet are not good reasons for IDLEness.

Precisely Keith, now I'm sure not all Jowett owners are "polishers" in fact I saw a black Javelin zooming north on the M6 on Friday (I think it had a Jersey registration) so I'm sure people actually drive them!

I use my Bradfords daily for my Computer business and just going out
We also use our matvhing number 69 Camaro daily
And several of the club members here still use their Javelins to go to work as they would have 30 yrs ago

So my question is, are they getting too old and frail to use as daily transport

If the car has been rebuilt or better to as it was when it came off the production line, there is no need to worry about it...it will be just as reliable as it was back then, even more so if regular servicing etc maintained
The camrao I got 150,000 miles...a couple tie rod ends, batteries, brake linings..normal stuff...and would have got at least another 100,000 miles if it had not got stolen and thrashed over 10.000 rpm.

Wow, didn't think you could get any Chevy to rev to 10,000 rpm!

Thanks for your reply though, I would of course regularly maintain the Javelin, I'm used to that with my other old cars and bikes.

My only real concern is breaking things that are difficult to replace, I'm out of touch now with the Jowett scene and it's my object to keep another Javelin on the road rather than off it.

So does anyone use theirs regularly?
