Re: Bradford For Auction
Information on the above has been posted now.
1952 Jowett Bradford Model CC 10cwt Truck
Reg. no. OKP 262
Chassis no. E1 CC36361
Engine no. E1 CC 3173D
...
In the large history file, there is correspondence regarding the vehicle\'s early history and the late owner felt that it was the original Folkstone Harbour workhorse/utility vehicle. It has been dry stored since 1983 but now is in need of total restoration. The Jowett\'s late owner had bought it from a scrapyard at Bethersden, in the file there are some photographs of the vehicle when discovered. There is a V5 in the file, two original sales brochures and various handbooks relating to the Jowett Bradford commercial range.

Re: Bradford For Auction
A few 'In the Flesh' images of the lorry - Front wings are dead has are the doors but the doors might just be salvageable if you have the skills, patience along with more time than money available - the bonnet sides are missing - the ash framed A posts are long deceased to the point that are just not there - the rear section of the cabs ash frame could well be salvaged & reused - the rear bed is well beyond use even has firewood - later style seats are still with it - steel dashboard frame is rotten beyond use has are some of the smaller panels needless to say the engine is seized but it came with a spare rear axle casing - chassis appeared solid & mechanically it was complete - I attended the auction to ensure it did not get purchased at a cheap enough price that a trader would break it for it parts - has we all know these are restorable and the parts are available if you know where to look & whom to ask - pretty rare in the fact that it is an original truck and not a truck built on what was formally a van - someone was pretty keen to own this - the bidding romped away against the £300 - £400 guide estimate to a telephone bidder for £1,144 - lets hope that it's a new member for the club and that they restore the truck to it's former glory.

Re: Bradford For Auction
It has received a ten minute makeover with the use of some second hand gaffa tape and a few rusty six inch nails to make it look somewhat more presentable than it is in reality - now unfortunately with a dealer who is going to be expecting a £800 - £1000 profit for the said ten minute makeover and dragging the vehicle back to his lair from the Chippenham based auction site

This very much annoys me that dealers being dealers will always overvalue anything - in this case by 200% + and by doing so does absolutely nothing to promote the marque or the club - instead overvalued vehicles deny potential new members has the vast majority will be off put by the overpricing made by the dealers in the first place. That is not to say that the vehicle in question will not sell - it will - just for lot more that it's actual physical worth with the ultimate driver being the greed of the vendor - who ever ends up with it will be disappointed has it looks 10 times better in the images than it does in reality.

Someone wants it - but this is utter madness they are going to be bitterly disappointed when they see it in the flesh

Re: Bradford For Auction
Perhaps someone thought that the 'valuable' registration number, hand-painted (but perhaps mis-spelt) on the front number plate was the actual DVLA recorded one.

Re: Bradford For Auction
Or there is some bidding up by the seller's friends and the lot will be withdrawn if a real bidder does not bite.
Now I have probably half a Bradford in my shed....anyone want it for £2000?
and Paul is it about time to put your hoard behind a security fence and have 24 hour security?

Re: Bradford For Auction
Amy told me that the buyer of this Braddie came to the stand at the NEC. He lives in the same road as Amy!
On Monday the new owner, Keith, phoned me and I walked around to his place to have a natter. The reason for the purchase is that he used to drive, when he was not even a teanager, a Braddie on his father's farm across the valley, so has yearned for one ever since.
Keith has already set to work on the restoration. The engine was seized so he filled the bores up with Duck oil (a foul smelling liquid), left it for a few days and gave it a test turn every day. Eventually it freed up. So he then tried starting it. After a few failed attempts, a new coil and a large battery coaxed it into action. Of course he will dismantle and restore the engine in due course. He has already restored the instrument panel and done a fantastic job. It looks as good as new.
Keith has retired so can now spend more time on his restorations.
Here is his restored Ford which was in a similar state to the Bradford. Anyone know which model it is? There are now very few examples left. Keith does nearly all the work himself.
Keith also has bought a Vanden Plas that was the very car he owned when a teanage garage apprentice. He originally bought the car because he had been told off by his boss for sitting in a customer's Vanden Plas. He bought it after scraping up the £250 by borrowing from friends. He then drove it to work just to put two fingers up to his boss, who eventually came to respect and develop him into a business owner. He had to sell the car to finance the start up of his own business. This car too needs some work but mainly cosmetic.
Yesterday Keith came around and emptied my shed of my Bradford bits. Many of these will be incorporated in the rebuild.
