Windscreen fitting

Post by Keith Clements »

I have had requests for tips on fitting the windscreen. So hopefully the experiences of those who have tackled this job will bring forth some knowledge.Note there is a technical day at Chris's on 18th August to fully investigate and document windscreen fitting.

I watched Chris and Peter struggle getting one into the Early Javelin rebuild subject and took some photos.

First off you need two people and some bubble wrap to protect the paintwork.

Get the glass with the rubber fitted inside the car.

Fit the rubber at the bottom first.

Using a steel reinforced thin washing line, the corner was fed into position applying pressure from the inside.

Continue around, pushing quite hard to fit in.

It took well over an hour to get to this stage!
Sealant was added between rubber and body and the chrome strip fitted.
