VINTAGE - 1927 EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST WANTED !

Post by Austprjowett »

Due to the recent tragic passing of my very good mate (Douglas Anderson) and co-owner of this car, I am regrettably offering (our) 1927 long chassis and associated parts for sale.
As the interest in Australia is virtually non-existent It is extremely unfortunate that I feel this will have to leave this country BUT there is a higher importance in that this vehicle needs to be restored - sooner, rather then later, and ideally, restored to be as close as possible to 100% correct as per original. Hence, it is far better to be returned to England where the skills, knowledge, enthusiasm and assistance is available. (Sadly, that is not here).
Some known history of this vehicle: Highly likely to be an original import into Australia. It is surprising the number of vintage radiators that have emerged over the years within Australia, indicating a "Considerable Number" of cars have come into the country. Most of these seem to be around mid to late '20s (so perhaps a direct result of the travels across Africa). However, this is now, (to the best of my knowledge) the only known 1927 Long Chassis that survives, more or less complete in Australia.
This car was in a shed in Sydney (NSW) in the late 1960's when found and purchased by a club member, sold soon after and went to Melbourne (Vic) (Somewhere here it lost its body, which I believe was a van of sorts, I doubt that was original). Anyway, this went into another shed until 1992 when Doug and my-self bought it. That was a Happy Day, that was !!
Any-way, regrettably, still similar condition and certainly deserves restoration, a roadster body was always favoured by us.
Some details of this vehicle: Engine Number 720490. - 1927 Long Chassis, mechanically mostly complete. Differential in car is incorrect and an unknown but correct one is dismantled and seems to be mostly there. Has front mudguards, lights, bonnet is there but currently off, has rear mudguards, running boards, galvanized valance panels definitely not correct as has sign-writing on them (so I found out the other day), dash mostly complete, steering, etc.
Also included with vehicle: Spare engine 720492 (YES - 2 numbers later !!!) Spare gear-box, another chassis that has been cut in half, (restorable), various wheels, etc, plus other parts to be assessed.
Now, when the rain stops here I will get more/better photos, probably be over the weekend tho. Car is under a tarp at present so mostly protected but far from ideal, so another reason I want this to go to a rightful owner. AT this point I am just looking for expressions of interest, and what people are willing to offer. I AM NOT interested in making a profit from this but do need to cover my costs and I will be selective to who I choose as the enthusiast to restore this vehicle. Sorry I'm so far away but shipping will be the responsibility of the new owner, but will assist in packing and can recommend local shipping agents (that ship internationally). Container yard is 10 mins away !
An Advert will be placed in Jowetteer in due course, but I would like to gauge interest, first, from the site before I list on E-bay, as a last measure. Thank-you.
