I have found play on both front suspension units,it appears to be between the thread of upper link pin 50286 and the yoke 50278.
Can anyone advise the best way to dismantle the upper part of the front suspension and which parts are available from JC Spares, as replacements for whatever is worn. Any personal experiences of the same problem and the final cure would also be appreciated
Thanks
PS The article in this months Joweteer re modified upper link seal washers was very timely and I will be incorporating this modification.

Hi,
The final solution? Replace with the later rubber-bushed suspension!
It fits! I changed a previous Javelin that had the original suspension set-up at the kerbside outside our flat in Tunbridge Wells, over a weekend, as I needed to drive to work on the Monday!. My present Javelin must have had it changed by a previous owner, as it must have been fitted with the earlier metal suspension from new.
You will need a few bits from the later suspension, like the swivel pin and, if you are lucky, the pin will be a good fit in the existing king pin bushes. If not, you will need a new set of bushes and an expanding reamer. It's not difficult. I think there was a certain amount of 'adjustment' too for the bottom pin in the lower suspension arm, but I had access to a small machine shop at work then! I know I didn't change the lower arm...much too difficult!
Mind you, this was in the early 1970's and nowadays we should be checking the caster angle etc. as you might disturb the shims behind the top box. One of the vital checks, which I can remember doing, is to check that the steering ball joint doesn't hit the steering arm at extreme deflections.
Happy days!
All the best,
David
