The seat on our beautifully restored SA is particularly reluctant to slide fore and aft.
The lock disengages easily. The runners have been lubricated as far as possible.
Any suggestions as to how the movement could be improved, also how the seat is removed?

Have you the wedges along the length of the runners? Are they parallel? You need to sit in centre to move or both push forward at same time.

Alignment for sure. The trapezoidal wood is in place. Let's start with a really big "SIGH". After I had the seat mounted and sliders working about as well as any (not a high bar), the car went off for upholstery. They did everything their way, not the way I requested (at first) and demanded (at the end) and refused to correct any of it. At least, not without billing for all of the work and the owner was not having any of that. They relocated the seat from the factory floor holes to get the seat "better centered" in the cockpit. In doing so, they lost the alignment. The previous owner being 6' 2" simply pushed the seat all the way back and said good enough.
I can't recall clearly, but I think your carpet is cut to fit around the sliders and mounts. The original holes will be visible from underneath the car. Moving back to the original holes might help, but moving it might only be marginally better. KC is correct that one needs to be in the center of the seat. There are three sliders, with the center one offset to the RHD steering position. Any one of the three can cause the binding.

I have used ones from a set of rally seats. Although not exactly the same they can be made to fit.

I have yet to find the exact same slider on another car. That said, I can't think of any reason sliders from another car would not work. Moss Motors has new AH 100 (https://mossmotors.com/seat-slide-set-right or also for TD or TF (https://mossmotors.com/seat-slide-assembly-right-1. The ones that are cross-braced will certainly help with alignment, the original topic here.
The sliders are mounted on a hard wood slat that tapers from about 1" at the front to zero at the rear. I'd have to grab one to get the dimensions.

Is there an exploded view or diagram of the seat workings around anywhere?
Any advice as to how to remove it / set it up thereafter if we decide to go that route would be welcomed.
The seat does slide - fortunately since it needs to accommodate Kim as she is the driver these days, but only with difficulty. So perhaps it does just make that low bar. I probably need to persuade one or two others to allow me to bugger up their seat positions in order to experiment and compare!
