THE MARCHES-BATHO NAVIGATIONAL-ECONOMY RALLY AND ECONOMY TOUR
14th of OCTOBER 2017



INVITATION

These events, open to members of those clubs comprising the Inter-Register Club and from the Bugatti
Owners’ Club and VSCC, will comprise:
(1) A Timed Navigational Rally with an Economy calculation incorporated within it.
(2) A Competitive Economy Tour that will follow the same route with the benefit of a “marked map” to be
issued by the organisers 20 minutes after the departure of the last car event (1).
The route will be defined by grid references for event (1) to be issued to competitors at the start and by a
marked map for event (2.) The route will be some 45 miles long through picturesque areas of Gloucestershire
and Worcestershire.
By kind permission of the Bugatti Owners’ Club, both events will start and finish at The Clubhouse, Prescott
Hill, Gotherington, Gloucestershire GL52 9RD (OS GR SO 984296).
Before arrival at The Clubhouse, however, ALL competitors in both events will be required to fill their fuel
tanks, under observation, at Alderton Austin Services Ltd., GL20 8NH (Club member) GR SO 994329, and to
travel to the Clubhouse via the “set” route” indicated on the attached map and, after completing the “Timed
Section” and Economy Route, to refuel at the same location, under observation before returning to the finish via
an untimed “Transport Section”.
Refreshments will be provided at the start and lunch will be available at the finish.
SUPPLEMENTARY REGULATIONS

1. The Worcestershire Area of the Riley Register will organise this event, a qualifying round of the 2017
Inter-Register championship series on behalf of the Inter-Register Club on Saturday 10th of June 2017. The
start and finish venues will be The Clubhouse, Prescott Hill, Gotherington, GL52 9RD: GR SO 984296
2. The event will held in accordance with the General Regulations of the Motor Sports Association
(incorporating the provisions of the International Sporting Code of the FIA) and these Supplementary
Regulations and any written instructions that the organising club may issue for the event.
3a. An MSA Permit for the Rally (1) has been applied for and will be displayed at the start.
3b. A Certificate of Exemption has been applied for for the Economy Tour (2) and will be displayed at the
start.
4. The event is open to pre-1941 cars entered by fully elected members of clubs within the Inter-Register
Club as listed below and also to members of the Bugatti Owners’ Club and the Vintage Sports Car
Club.
Alvis Register Austin Ten Drivers Club Crossley Register
FIAT Register Humber Register Riley Register
Pre-War Austin 7 Club STD Register 750 Motor Club
Model A Ford Club Jowett Car Club MG Vintage Register

Entrants will be required to present a valid membership card for at least one of the above named Clubs at
Signing On.
5. All entrant’s cars must be road legal, taxed for the road and covered by appropriate RTA insurance.
Entrants will be required to confirm that their insurance policy does cover competition on public roads by
completing the addendum to the entry form. All drivers must hold a current driving licence for the car entered
and drive throughout the event.
6. Within Event (1) there will be there will be two classes: Experts and Novices. A novice crew is one
within which no member has been placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any IRC or VSCC event in the previous three
years.
Within Event (2) there will be no differentiation between expert and novices.
7. The programme event will be:
Competitors must refuel, under observation, from 09.00 at Alderton Austin Services Ltd. from where they must
travel via the set route attached to these regulations to the start venue. Competitors’ route cards will be issued
at the petrol station.
The distance between the petrol station and the Signing on venue is 3.5 miles and will be included in the
Economy calculations. Competitors may check their odometer accuracy by using this set route.
Scrutineering, signing on and issue of Final Instructions from 09.30 at the Prescott Clubhouse where
refreshments will be provided. Entrants not signed on by their due start time will be penalised or refused a start.
Competitors will receive Final Instructions at signing-on.
Route directions will be issued for both events at 1 minute intervals Car No. 1 will receive route instructions at
10.30
Event (1) only:
Experts will be allowed 5 minutes “plotting time”, Novices will be allowed 15 minutes, thus, competitors
must leave the Start Control in Car park Zone M no later than 5 or 15 minutes respectively after their due
start time. Failure to do so will attract time penalties as below.
Cars will complete the Timed Section from approximately 12.45.
From the end of the Timed Section, cars will return to the finish of the rally at Prescott Clubhouse via the same
petrol station to refuel, under observation. From the the Time Control to the finish is untimed but is part of the
Navigation Section of the rally. Cars will finish from approximately 13.00 with lunch available at the Clubhouse
Event (2) only:
An opportunity to exercise your “transport of delight” and to enjoy the autumn landscape and colours. You will
receive a “marked map” at the start. To add a little bit of interest, we include an element of competition based
entirely upon tourists’ forecasts of their fuel consumption. Otherwise, all that we ask of you is that you do not
impede or collude with competitors. For that reason, the maps will be issued 20 mins after the departure of the
last competitor in event (1). (This may allow you an extra 30mins at home before setting off but, any tourists
who have not returned by 14.30 will probably miss their lunch).
8. The route will cover 47 miles all on OS Sheet 150, the 2012 edition, reprinted February 2016, has been
used by the organisers in planning but any edition will be adequate.
9. The route for Event 1 will be defined by no more than 18 six figure grid references and a Romer will be
essential for plotting it, a pencil and eraser may be helpful too. A test crew has covered the route successfully
using only these grid references.
For the Timed Navigation Rally (1) a stop watch should not be necessary but a timepiece adequate for
recording start and finish times within an accuracy of one minute will be.
For the Economy Tour (2) no time penalties apply but competitors should return to Prescott Clubhouse no later
than 14.30.
10. Rally scoring will be thus:
Rally (1) only
(i) One point lost for every minute late at Undisclosed Time Controls.
(ii) Two points lost for every minute early at Undisclosed Time Controls.

(iii) Five points for wrong direction of approach to time controls
(iii) Five points lost for each missed route board or Time Control
(iv) Two points lost for each mile exceeding or less than the “set” distance (an allowance of 5%
error will be allowed to take into account the potential inaccuracies of “vintage” instrumentation)
Events (1) & (2)
(v) Two points lost for every mile error in m.p.g. prediction.
In the event of tied scores, the number of adults in the crew and the age of the car will be used to
determine the results.
11. Awards:
Subject to a minimum of ten entries in each event there will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall with
the Batho Trophy being awarded to the highest finishing Worcestershire based Riley. There will also be

a novice prize. Prizes will be awarded to the entrants of the three cars belonging to the highest Inter-
Register team.

12. Protests: These must be lodged in accordance with Section C5 of the MSA Regulations
13. The entry list opens with the publication of these instructions and closes onFriday 29th ofSeptember.
14. All entries at £27.50 per car, inclusive of refreshments at the start, must be made on the official entry
form accompanied either by a cheque made payable to the Worcestershire Riley Register and posted to the
Secretary of the meeting: Conway Hall, March House, Ombersley, Worcestershire WR9 0DP
