Head gasket fitting

FITTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR JAVELIN/JUPITER HEAD GASKETS
Standard Piston Bore (72.5mm to 75.0mm) or Oversize bore head gaskets (75.0mm plus) which have curved hole in lower water transfer ports (see picture)

This picture shows the standard gasket underneath with the oversize one on top.
As well as the larger combustion chamber holes the water transfer holes on the left hand side are shaped differently with the hole following the curve of the bore rather than being parallel to the other edge.

1/ Set Liner heights above block 0.006” to 0.008”.
Use assorted thickness Copper Shims to achieve this.

2/ Smear thinly Loctìte Master Gasket, Silicone Rubber(or similar)
to edge of gasket and block to assist in sealing water
(not on Liner to Head Seal area)
Be careful not to obstruct oil drain holes in block!

3/ Fit O’ ring around stud feeding oil to rockers — push into gasket.

4/ Fit solder or gasket sealer around top four nuts.
Use bolt tightening sequence page 22 of Manual
Tighten heads in these steps relaxing back 5 lbs/ft at each step using an accurate torque wrench,
20 lbs/ft x3 times, 30 lbs/ft x2 times, 37.5 lbs/ft x2 times.
Make sure you do not overtighten as this will crack block. 37.5Lbs ft is about what an average person can tighten without jerking on a 6 inch wrench.

5/ Run engine up to 75 degC water temperature.
Leave 15-20 mins and re-torque heads to 37.5 pounds/foot

6/ Reset tappets cold.
