All registered users can comment on items in the Gallery. They can also link to items in the Gallery from the Forum and thus invite more comment. Gallery items can also link back to Forum posts.
Using the Gallery comment system is better because the Gallery keeps everything together even when items are moved during Curating.
Images stored in the Forum attachment system cannot be referenced. If Forum posts are moved, links to them break.
You can have a go at adding to the comment in the first item of this album explaining what the pictures mean. You should be able to edit the Gallery item comment and post it back with your changes. I (or you) can then copy the comment and post it back to the Forum just to show what can be done cooperatively.
Clearly the final version of the document should only be kept in one place (we can delete any other versions to avoid confusion) although we can still allow commenting either in the Gallery or on the forum.
You can construct documents using you favourite editor and embed the links to the Gallery or the Forum into your document.
You can then copy this into the Forum post or Gallery comment but there is a danger your editor will put special characters into the text which may cause problems in the system as they are a potential security risk.
You can upload your document as a Gallery item or Forum attachment (the links should still work)
but then it will not be searchable, whereas posts and comments are.
