Early Jowett Photo ID

Post by JanJury »

Hi there,

I am new to this forum. The main reason for me to post here is to try and identify a car in a family photo.
We believe it is an early Jowett. The family called it a "Jowett Tourer". From the age of my Granddad and Great Aunts I estimate the photo to be around the years of the Great War (1914-1918). The car was registered in Huddersfield based on the "CX73" registration.

This is the only photo we have of the car so sorry it isn't any clearer but if anyone has an idea about what the make of car is, if indeed it is a Jowett and when it might have been built I would be entirely grateful.

Many thanks

Jan

Hello Jan.
Below is a scan of a photocopy of page 2 of the 1915 Jowett Sales brochure.
Your photo doesn't seem to match this Jowett photo, in respect of the wheels, rear wings, length and especially the shape of the radiator cowl.
It seems to be a rather heavier car than the one I've scanned, but others might have a different opinion.
There is an 'Old Car' publication called 'The Automobile' and perhaps a copy of your photo to the editor of that mag might just do the trick. The readers are world-wide and very knowledgeable.
Tony.
