Steering Rack Gaiters

Post by rickjowett »

Hello All,

My steering rack gaiters (rubberish boots covering part of the steering rack) are in need of replacement, they may be the originals. What is the easiest way to replace them? My hope is to find a trick as opposed to a complete disassembly of the rack. Please advise.

Disconnect the track rod after marking any position of adjustment. Easy.

Try Google. Unfortunately there is not a UK to US translator on my phone but how about steering arm.

Figured it out, was simple. Track rod unscrews so you can slip off old gaiters and on with the new. Easy repair, 1 hour both sides.

RickJowett:

If you are in the US/Canada, drop me a PM and I will send a copy of the parts manual. This is fairly handy when ordering parts, as the number will ID the part. Usually. Sometimes. The drawings are cool anyway. Well, the parts they got around to illustrating. Still pretty handy.
Cheers,
Scott

See link on the home page of JowettTalk in the section cars and parts and there is a link to the parts manuals which are in the Technical Library. You need to be a club member to view though.
