Chris Spencer's interesting article in the October Jowetteer overlooks the races held at Bexhill in East Sussex from 1902, and intermittently up to 1923.
These were 'one way' races that were held, involving two cars at time on a cycle racing track built by the 8th Earl De La Warr in his garden, now Bexhill sea front.
The first race was won by Leon Serpollet on a steam powered car called the 'Easter Egg' at a speed of 54mph.
I was fortunate to be invited to be Clerk of the Course for the Bexhill 100 series of commemorative events from 1990 to 2002.
There is a Bexhill 100 motor club but the event was discontinued due a variety of circumstances.
