Jupiter rear over riders
Looking for a pair of Jupiter rear over riders for our '51 SA, any suggestions?
Were they made by Jowett, or are they common to any other vehicles?
Many thanks
Roger

Roger,
I had the same question, it seems common wisdom is that AH is the same

Re: Jupiter rear over riders
Roger,
Following up on this, now I am also now personally confused
The link posted by Bronteboxer is to AH sprite bumpers and overriders
https://www.ahspares.co.uk/sprite/bumpers/default.aspx
Keith's post simply mentions AH equivalents
I was recently given this link as the equivalent, namely from the Big Healey
https://www.ahspares.co.uk/austin-heale ... tseal.aspx
Can any of the afficionados please clarify for both Roger and me?
Thanks
Andy

They would not have been made by Jowett and the AH ones look good to me, but if you want to be certain then take some dimensions and photos of some known original Jup ones and email to AH spares.

Re: Jupiter rear over riders
I heard from John Powter today that they are the same as MG TD / TF. These in turn seem to be the same as Frogeye & 100/4 Healeys.
I'm planning to mount small torpedo rear indicators on (this) spare pair when acquired.

Glue or use strong magnets to hold the indicators on rather than drill holes.

Re: Jupiter rear over riders
I have used the 454-010 unit that Moss Motors sells. As noted above, this is AH BN1& BN2, Sprite, MGTD & TF.
Moss (and likely everyone else, as Moss originates almost all the BMC parts now) replacements require reshaping the arc where the overrider meets the profile of the bumper. The Jowett bumper is taller than the other bumpers. One grinds or files off the last 1/2" or so about 1/8" at the tip and tapering to match the center of the curve of the overrrider. The issue is that this removes the chrome along that edge, creating a spot for the chrome to lift over time. The packing trim will hide this. The Moss chrome is marginal at best and in the past I have ordered 8 units to get 4 decent ones. On several cars, the units were sent out for re-chroming so that the edge was sealed and the tonality matched the rest of the chrome.
The other issue is that while the originals have a welded plate with a welded stud, making alignment rather straightforward, the re-pops use a slot with a carriage bolt. If your newly formed arc is off center, the overrider wants to align on the arc, as the slot allows the bolt location to move.
