Why Bradford by Jowett . Jowett Bradford

Some Nutter on face book on old British cars keep saying the Bradford was a make in its own right not a Jowett Bradford its a Bradford ,just like Bedford was to Vauxhall .

It was explained to me that Jowett after the war launched the Bradford but kind of distanced themselves from the flat twin commercial that was inspired by the success of the prewar cars by making it "Bradford by Jowett" instead of just a "Jowett Bradford"

Then later when they realised how well regarded the Bradford was, and the volume of sales they had, they reassociated themselves with the brand more with the "Same Stable" marketing campaign.

But is was always a Jowett - just look at the badge on the bonnet, never seen anything other than "Bradford by Jowett" on the front of one. On the other hand, if you look over a Bedford, you won't find Vauxhall badges on the outside of it, different division even though they often used the same engines etc as Vauxhall cars.

I assume all Jowett products came from the same factory.
Did the Bradford van appear in the same showrooms as Javelin and the Jupiter?

A Ford Transit van and a Ford Mustang are both Fords but utterly different.

Regarding the Bedford and the Vauxhall vehicles, I assume that, in Britain, the Bedfords are sold through Commercial Vehicle dealers and the Vauxhalls through car dealerships.

Its remarkable, from my experience, the number of random people that are familiar with the Bradford but dont associate it to Jowett !! - Ive had people able to tell me what type of motor, flat twin , van, etc. They may not have seen one for fifty years, but they remember them ! You mention Jowett, 'huh, a what, never heard of them !!
I've had that response on more then one occasion !!!

I think, in the rural areas of Australia any-way , the Bradford either had a sole agent or was sold with other commercials instead of a Jowett agent ! But in suburban areas they were sold by a Jowett agent. This probably changed towards 1951 on.
