Sadler Special

Some of you may know that a Canadian racer built a couple of specials that used Jowett parts. I met Bill Sadler at the Sonoma races over the weekend and in his energetic 80's, he is going to re-create the Sadler Mk2. This car utilized the rear axle, torsion bars, front suspension, brakes and wheels from a Javelin.

There are a couple of Javelins being parted out in Canada right now, so I think he'll be able to source the bits he needs. I hope this will aid me in developing improvements in my car, as Bill has extensive experience in building racing cars.

In 1954, the Mk 1 Sadler was totally based upon a Jowett Javelin components in a tubular frame, but in 1955 the first version of the Mk 2 used a TR 2 engine and transmission. For the next season, the TR 2 engine was replaced by a 262 cu. inch Corvette. I have also talked to Bill and he told me that he had also had a Jowett Javelin as his day car, and thought that they were great cars. He lives in Florence, Oregon now, and dabbles in making drones.

The first iteration of the Sadler-Jowett appeared in 1954 with crude bodywork and cycle wings.
The car was featured in Hot Rod Magazine, April 1956, with all-enveloping body, prior to fitting of Triumph TR2 motor.
