1934 saloon sliding roof mechanism.

Post by Tony Fearn »

This is a long shot!
I'm helping Bernard to renovate and fix the sliding roof to his 1934 long saloon. We have the main mechanism, but are missing the part in the photo below that clamps around the slide which runs from front to back.

It's the claw-like arrangement that fits through the hole on the end of the actuating rod. The photo is from my 1934 short saloon, and I can't dismantle it to have a proper look. The clamp is on the left hand side of the photo. I think it helps to keep the roof on the car when 'travelling at speed' as well as locking the roof.
Does anyone have a photo or a pattern of this clamp? I'm sure we'll be able to reproduce it if we can get a pattern.
Thanks,
Tony.

Well I made a couple of clamps on a suck it and see basis, and took them over to Bernard's a few weeks ago.
We gave them a trial fit and I think all will be well when he's re-created the 3-ply roof.
Tony.
