Side Window Glass Regulator Channel

Post by Leo Bolter »

Hi folks,

I'm trying to locate a source of the channel that the Javelin/Jupiter window glass is secured to and which has a groove in which the regulator mechanism rollers run.

There is no mention of it in the Javelin section of the "brown" Spares List, but it is in the Jupiter section (Part # 55240 & 55241) but unfortunately no illustration, as is so often the case!

To aid in it's recognition I have loaded a cross sectional drawing of the component in my gallery at Http://jowett.net/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=3311 (this drawing, I understand, may get moved to the Technical Section).

I'm in urgent need of 4 x 420mm lengths of the basic channel, which usually requires cutting to suit.

Any guidance to a source will be much appreciated.

NOTE for the NZ guys:
There was, about 12 years ago, a manufacturer (a small "backyard" engineer?) up "North" (maybe Auckland) who produced what I'm in need of. Could you ask about? Maybe ask older members (who may not get on the WWW!). Perhaps someone will remember. Rumor has it that the machine "broke" and wasn't fixed . . . maybe the guy retired. Perhaps if it was located we could fix it . . . and serve the whole world and make our fortunes! Har ha!

Cheers, Leo

Gee that was quick !! Talk about "instant messaging"!

The link to the Aussie site (http://www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au/) has exactly what I want listed. But I did a fairly comprehensive search for "Bassis" but got nowhere, I'm afraid . . . are you able to expand this information Bryan, by supplying further contact details?

I understand Horipito does go as far as having a phone number, but that's about it ! . . . and I can't find that in the Yellow Pages, White Pages nor on Google! . . . even with variations of spelling. They haven't been blown away up there beside Mount Ruapehu, have they?

Thanks for your help . . . a WOF is remotely possible now you've assisted !

Regards to all up in the "Winterless North . . mind you it's been pretty nice here lately . . .

Cheers, Leo

P.S. Talking of instant messaging . . I'm on Skype and MSN if anyone's interested in linking up. RLB

The other week, we unloaded a trailer of old Javelin parts, including a few doors, into the Bradford water tank store, up at Ken's place.
Maybe the channel from one of this would fit or be adapted?

Dear Leo,

I used the regulator channel from Spectrum Rubber and Panels who supply Scott's Old Auto Rubber. The channel has to be knotched in exactly the right place for the slider wheels. The Spectrum Part Number is 368.007 and it is sold in 1 metre lengths.

They also sell the uncured rubber as follows:

40 mm wide x 1 mm thick Part Number 241.008
40 mm wide x 1.5 mm thick Part Number 241.013
50 mm wide x 2 mm thick Part Number 241.040

If you are removing a channel from a piece of glass, soak the assembly in kerosene for quite some time and scrape away the softened and swelled rubber progressively.

Spectrum are located as follows:

Telephone 61 2 9623 5333
Fax 61 2 9833 1041

Postal address: PO Box 328, St Marys, New South Wales, 1790, Australia.

Trust this helps a bit.

Mike Allfrey.
