Erratic fuel gauge.

Post by TonyBelcher »

Out of fuel again this week, thought I might check the sender. Tank out (easy, looks new with remains of labels on the top) and sender checked/cleaned. However, showing 'reverse' reading on the gauge. Remove four set screws from instrument cluster, disconnect battery and swap wires to gauge: same fault so remove Smiths unit and mess with various combination of wiring etc with no success. By chance I was on another website this morning and noticed a mail re fuel gauges. Turned out the Smiths gauge on his car wasn't compatible with his AC sender - same as mine! I noticed on the Javelin spares list (can't find a Bradford list) the sender is listed as 'Smiths sender' which would make sense. Anyone else had this problem?
