Bradford Shock absorbers.

I have been asked how do you renovate the Bradford shock absorbers? Or are there new ones or replacements available?
Any ideas?

Hi Keith,
There is a firm Autolign in Christchurch (192 Wordsworth St, Waltham 8023 ph +64 3 377 0660). They remove the plug from the back of the body, push the shaft off the internal rocker arm and out of the body. The external arm is left on the shaft. The internals, shaft bearings, and seals are then accessible.

There is quite a bit of info on the web if you google Armstrong Lever Arm Shock Absorbers.

Regards

Fractutred Shock absorbers.

Post by Forumadmin »

When reading the article in the last post.. worth check as half on the road may be cracked, if they are empty or have a leak they probably are.
To check for fractures/cracks clean the shocks, but DO NOT buff them or scratch them in any way. Get a magnifying glass and minutely inspect the end of the shock, round the ends of the cylinders. If there's a line there or it looks like a crack, then the probability is about 99.9% that it is racked. Once they crack they are RS, and all you can do is check the next one! If you want to confirm that its cracked, fill the shock with any thin oil, even kerosene would do, mount it in a vice and pump the arm through the full extent of its travel, as fast and as hard as you can. If it's cracked then the oil will squirt out of the crack.
