Jowett 1926 SEE

Post by DavidMetcalfe »

We have just bought the 1926 Jowett called SEE. It's good to bring her home back to Bradford, West Yorkshire where she was built.
It has such a amazing history; Built in 1926, it did 3800miles in 60 days across Africa. It was then rebodied at the end of 1926 and sold as a 4 sweater tourer.
It was in use until 1929, but due to wear from the Africa journey, it was put in a garage under a house in London.
During the Second World War, the house was bombed and the car was buried in the underground garage. The area was then cleared to make a car park, and the car lay undiscovered until 1999.
The land was sold during 1999 and the car was discovered whilst the land was being developed. The car was exhumed and then sold to be restored.
The car had a lot of different features to the chassis and upon contacting the DVLA, the cars' original owners were traced and the family contacted, where the story of the car unfolded.
This is only a short version of the story of the car and it's escapades.

Hi David,

Does the car run and drive at the moment? Can we run something on this with the magazines?

Great story from the cross-Africa expedition that we have some photos from, I can imagine a few journalists interested in doing a piece on this.

Jack.

Brill, that is just what this car wants! Give me a call if you wish to talk 07770 354809.
I've put a few miles on it today! I'm trying to get the automobile magazine to do aright up. I know this car did the NEC at Birmingham in 2002,I would like to do that with it! If anyone can help me give me a call. If the weather hold off this weekend I'll be running around Bradford! Lol

Well done David, I am delighted to see the car is back in Bradford!
Let me know how you get on with The Automobile, as this is a story that needs to be told again.
Good luck with the car,
Noel
