I find this very interesting. I spent ages redrawing the 1930 circuit diagram for my own benefit. using colours to clarify the various cable runs (NOT the cable colours - all black I believe except possibly the wires to the dynamo).

A key point with this diagram (to me anyway) is the apparent feed AND RETURN to each light, rather than the more common 'Earth' (chassis) return.

Doea anyone care to comment?

The Long Two has aluminium bodywork and my dad warned me not to earth the side lamps to it as you can set up electolytic corrosion? It does seem a bit of an over complication not to earth through the chassis though.

It is probably easier to put a separate return in rather than find a suitable bolt under which to fix an electrical connection. The torque required on bolts fixing other components might also destroy the electrical tab. With lights hanging out on wings , wooden and aly body work and the simplicity of pre-war electrics and only 6v to play with, separate returns have my vote. It is certainly more reliable to put in a separate return as I did on my rally Jup.

Certainly reliability is a main factor. From my (limited) experience with military vehicles I recall all had "Double pole" wiring.
