Oil filler caps or alternatives

Post by Dhbangham »

I read in another post that the Javelin oil filler cap was the same fit as the pre-war long four radiator cap. Please does anyone know where to find an original or alternative make of oil filler cap for a long four?

Have you tried JCS? If it is the same fit as a Javelin filler cap, I'd be very surprised if they didn't have a spare Javelin cap kicking around.

Jack.

Thanks Jack, unfortunately, it is not the Vintage oil filler cap and Javelin fuel cap that are interchangeable, but the Javelin oil cap and the Vintage petrol cap that are. So my next question is, can anyone tell me the pitch, profile and diameter of the vintage oil filler cap? Initial measurements show something between 1 1/8 and 1 11/64 inch diameter.

I have now sorted out the specifications of the oil cap. The nominal OD of the thread is 1 1/4 with a 20 tpi. Standard 60 degree angle. The length of thread is 1/4 inch.. I have made a number of spare caps while I was on the lathe, so contact me if you need one.
