Ex-employees at the BIM and the Commemorative run next day

Post by Tony Fearn »

I have it on good authority that there's at least one Jowett couple, not from Yorkshire, or even the Premier County, coming up to Bradford for the Ex-employees' meeting at the Bradford Industrial Museum on the Saturday, and then staying overnight in the vicinity of Bradford so that they are easily able to join the Commemorative Run (page 9 April Jowetteer) the following day.

MKO says that there's an Ibis hotel in Shipley with a car park which will take 150 cars. There are of course numerous other watering holes in the vicinity, but why be Billy-no-mates in a B and B.

Is anyone considering both days of the weekend?

Tony.

I've just booked a stay at the 2* Ibis hotel in Shipley for the 10th August, the evening of the Ex-employee's meeting. The Ibis hotel is about 2 miles from the starting point of the Commemorative Run on Sunday 11th August (Manningham Park in Bradford), and 5 miles from the B.I.M.

At the moment the room rate is £33.30 without cancellation.

The hotel has around 70 bedrooms and there is still plenty of room.

MKO tells me that - "so far there are about 22 Jowetts, 4 moderns and 55 people booked in for the run".

Northern Commemorative run 11th August

Post by Forumadmin »

This is your last reminder to book for the above Run, as all bookings and
payments are required BY THE 4TH AUGUST AT THE VERY LATEST. Full details of the event appeared in the April and May Jowetteers and below.
The cost per head (including afternoon tea) is £11.50 and for children under 11
years it will be £6.50. No booking can be accepted without payment as numbers must
be known both for Manningham Park, the lunch stop (if we are to secure reserved space)
and afternoon teas. A receipt will be provided and tickets distributed prior to the event.
No bookings can be accepted at the Ex-Employees Reunion or on the day. Members
wishing to attend in modern cars are welcome on the Run and for afternoon tea, but will
not be able to park with the Jowetts in Manningham Park although parking within 100
yards is available. If you have any queries please ring Michael Koch-Osborne on
01274560642 or email him at michaeldko'at'hotmail.com
Bookings and cheques should be made out to the Jowett Car Club Northern
Section, and sent to Michael Koch-Osborne, 3 Pennygate, Eldwick, Bingley, West
Yorkshire, BD16 3BN

All Jowett Car Club members are welcome to take part in a Commemorative
Run on Sunday, 11th August, which is the day after the Ex-Employees Reunion. This
is being organised by the Northern Section on behalf of the Jowett Car Club. A
similar route will be taken to the one when the Jowett Light Car and Social Club was
formed on Saturday, 13th May, 1922. We will meet in front of the Cartwright Hall
in Manningham Park at 10.00 for departure at 11.00. Routes will be provided, passing
various hostelries, with a rendezvous after about forty miles at the award-winning
three-star Best Western Crown Hotel in Boroughbridge. This is probably the actual
hotel where the original Jowett Light Car and Social Club had its inaugural meeting
on that day in 1922. We will arrive at 4.00; later, members may either return to
Bradford or disperse home

By now, ex-employees will have received their invitations from John
Stockwell. When replying, please advise the number in your party for catering purposes.
Likewise, all Northern Section members who we don’t see regularly will have
received invitations from Keith Wear. Send your replies to myself, Ian Priestley, at 626

Following the success of last year, we shall repeat the cavalcade of Jowetts
from the former factory site to the Museum. Cars in the cavalcade should be in position
by 10.30am for an 11.00am departure.

After an early morning start to get to practice at Silverstone I then decided to stay for prize giving at the Fiscar race as Jowetts won the team prize (albeit with a Jag to make the team up to three) . So I missed the Reunion arriving at 18:00hrs in Shipley.

I am back from the Commemorative run run although I did cut it short thinking it might take me 4 hours in the Sunday traffic into London. After spending a couple of hours in Knaresborough having a cream tea and chatting with the various Jowett owners that visited the town en-route. I did the 195 miles at an average of 68 miles and hour which considering the few stretches of 50 and 60mph limits, roundabouts and some traffic was good going. However, I have decided to change the layrub as I do not think it has been done for perhaps 15 years and a vibration is starting. So the SA is now on the lift and sure enough you can see the bright metal at the inside of a couple of the rubber inserts. We did take a spare layrub on the Baltic tour as there was a vibration then.

Two pictures from a damp Lister Park at the start of the run. Sorry they are predominantly NKD but I was waylaid talking to people to take others!

I went over to the Jowett Ex-employees meetup on Saturday, and had a truly wonderful time. There was a great turnout, and owners were approachable and had plenty to say about their beautiful Jowetts. Hopefully one day I will be lucky enough to own a Jupiter myself!

I took some photographs of the event, which you can see in my Flickr set here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/footlamber ... 014099880/

Here is another photo taken at Cartwright Hall before the Commemorative Run, and a couple from the Crown Inn at Boroughbridge at the end of the run.

Wow! Thanks Julian for the link to some wonderful photos of the event. We're all glad to see them and that you had such a great time.

There's another photo that I think many members will like to see, and that's the one below of Dennis Goode, a JCC member since 1970. Dennis, now 90 years old, came both days, driven in his Bradford by son David. The photo was taken at the pub half way to Boroughbridge, where many of us stopped for coffee etc..

Dennis was the lead member of the Middlesborough National Rally team in 1980. One that some of us will remember as another 'right good do'.
