Hopefully this means the garage will be able to receive visitors in a few weeks. This prompted people at the dinner after Bletchley to ask if we could have some technical evenings or days there. Of course! These were planned to start in the next couple of months but finding a free day is a problem.
So any ideas what you would want us to do?
Some ideas put forward are as follows.
1. A yearly service on a Jup and a Jav. As we have a lift we could show what to inspect and what to do to make sure the car is ready for the road.
2. Preparing a car for a rally or very long journey. The extra things to think about for that continental trip.
3. Engine tuning. As we have an engine test bed (no dyno yet though) we can see how to set the engine up.
4. Engine strip down. What to check on taking an engine apart. We have both initial cleaning and final cleaning troughs and soda and grit blasting booths. Also crack testing kit.
5. Engine assembly. What to check on putting an engine together.
6. Gearbox and clutch strip down.
7. Gearbox and clutch assembly.
6. Rear axle check.
7. Brakes
8. Suspension
9. Water system Discussion of all the things to consider from overheating to rebuild.
10. Oil system
11. Body rust points
12. Fabrication of body parts bending, stretching and many other techniques to convert metal into parts
13. MIG, TIG and Spot welding
14. Lead filling
15. Body prep and spraying
16. Glass replacement
17. Wiring and electric checks
18. Electric component refurbishment Starters, Dynamos, Regulator, Heaters ....
19. Lathe work and milling of Jowett components
20 .Interior fitment Head lining and trim considerations.
We could also hook up by Video link with Webcam and/or Skype with Internet access. There is something to do on Jowetts in the Winter (or summer if attending via the Southern Hemisphere) as there is a wood burner in the garage. We would hope that contributions would come from everybody so building on our collective knowledge and capabilities.
