Hi all,
Jowett's obviously never intended their cars to last this long! Just been asked a question and am looking for some advice? Looking at the rear of the gearbox, you have the long cover, called a Speedo Housing Extension Tube, 50044. Part way down this tube you have a solid ring, welded onto the outer casing of the tube. This acts as a friction buffer to the two rubber mounts, fitting either side of this solid steel ring. In turn, these rubbers are held in place by two steel brackets, 50909 and 50907. The brackets are bolted together by four set screws and there are washers between the brackets, that set the amount of 'crush' on the mounting rubbers. This can be adjusted to eliminate vibration on this rear mounting for the engine and gearbox assembly.
My question is how on earth can you change the inner mounting bracket, 50909. It sits between the steel collar and the flange on the gearbox end of the extension tube. Th4e outer bracket can be slid off the end of the extension tube. Jowett's have gone to the trouble of giving the inner one a separate part number (50909), but once the steel ring was welded to the tube in the factory, there seems to be no way of changing the bracket? It would have made more sense from Jowett's if the assembly ( tube plus inner bracket) was given a single part number?
The member asking the question has this bracket suffering from severe rusting and the only way of changing it would seem to be sawing one in half and then brazing or welding it up again once back on the extension tube!
Any ideas?
David
How do you change it?
